I have nothing to wear! Is this inappropriate? Worn with black tights and black boots?

Is it OK for a funeral?

It's the darkest dress I own

I think yes if all accessories are dark. Sorry for your loss 💐

Have you been told a dress code? Some might say to wear bright colours etc. If not, if you’re buying something new, I’d get something much more muted and plain.

BlusteringBoobies · 29/11/2021 09:17

It's a lovely dress! I guess it would totally depend on the type of funeral?

When my Aunt passed away, my Uncle encouraged everyone to dress brightly to celebrate her life. But when my Grandpa died, he was a much more formal man and wouldn't have approved of anything other than black really.

Do you have a black jacket or cardigan you could wear with it?

PurpleDaisies · 29/11/2021 09:19

I probably wouldn’t unless I knew other people were wearing slightly brighter dresses like that.

Sorry for your loss. Flowers

I wouldn’t unless there’s a no black dress code. Unless you have a long dark coat? Or could borrow one?

LHOOQ · 29/11/2021 09:22

Do you have a dark grey or black cardi or jacket for over the top? I think that would be OK.

A lot of this sort of stuff depends on the funeral and also how close you are to the family. If not very close, I personally would tend to tread more carefully and stick to black, navy or grey.

daisypond · 29/11/2021 09:22

Oh, I see you already own it. It’s a nice dress but probably not for a funeral, unless you have a long dark cardigan or coat to go on top.

furballfun · 29/11/2021 09:23

Really depends on the funeral. I've worn similar, but when guests had been asked for 'not black' or 'bright clothing'.

Linked to that, do you know how those closest to the deceased would feel if you wore that? If they wouldn't care, or would be wearing similar, then it's fine. If it would hurt or offend them, then it's probably time for a rethink (and a shopping trip).

FetchezLaVache · 29/11/2021 09:25

It's not exactly funereal, but as PPs have said, it might work if you have a long black or charcoal coat to wear over it. Otherwise, do you have a friend who could lend you something sombre?

Ceara · 29/11/2021 09:32

It's modest, and if you wear it with dark accessories and coat to tone it down I think it would be fine. You remember who came to loved ones funerals not what they wore.

clarepetal · 29/11/2021 11:40

Yes, and sorry for your loss

swimchick1980 · 29/11/2021 11:49

Thanks everyone. The deceased wouldn't have cared a hoot but I don't want to look disrespectful so I panic bought a plain black dress.
