If you were starting make up collection from scratch what would you buy?

I have nothing. What I had was a bit random and old and cheap and I binned it in lockdown.
If you were going to spend no more than £50, say, for the absolute basics what would you get?

I would join beauty pie and buy a load of stuff from there as it’s cheap enough to experiment a bit but as good most of the high end stuff.

I would skip foundation and do a tinted moisturizer. Maybe get the one palate wonder for either warm ( geeen veins on you wrist) or cool skin ( blue veins on your wrist). There is a bronzer / highlighter/ blush in there.
Get an eyebrow pencil, mascara and a cream blush too and maybe a cream undereye concealer. And but a bunch of their future lipsticks and maybe the chubby balm sticks ( dune of Clinique ones I think)

I wouldn’t faff about with eyeliners or much eyeshadow just yet.

OP if you’re normally low maintenance, I’d suggest a eyelash perm or lift? Then any old mascara will make them pop.
Get the 3 for 2 at no7 !!
Some lovely gift sets for cheap at the moment too
Don’t touch their mascaras or their primers. But there foundations really are excellent and well priced. There BB creams and foundations with serum already in them.
And get a decent sponge and brush
Morphe do great brushes.

At this time of year again, the premium brands are doing mini sets- so you can try things without forking out the full size and hating it.
Makeup Revolution are very good and pretty fam cheap! Their blushers, shadows and highlighters are very pigmented ! Get a nude pallet and hit YouTube and have a play about.

I’m in my 50s so what suited for years looks too heavy now. I’ve never spent much on make up and always looking for bargain alternatives.
My pick would be
A CC cream – I have recently found Estee Lauder Revitalising Supreme Global CC crème - which is the most expensive make up I have ever owned (it is about £40) but it seems to magically go the colour of your skin – it is dewy/glowy, so not sure if it might appear greasy on younger skins. I would love to find something similar at a cheaper price tag though.
Blusher – Boujois little round pots – applied with a bigger brush. The only one that does not seem too light and powdery (I’ve tried crème but can’t seem to apply it right) – about £6
Eyebrows – mine are a bit uneven and sparse in places, so I use any old brown eyeshadow and sparingly apply with a cotton bud. (massively avoiding that too dark look though)
Lip tint – lipsticks are too heavy, you can feel them on your lips, I use Max Factor Lipfinity Lasting Lip Tint (£3 amazon) which you ‘draw on’, I then just add Carmex in the yellow tube
Mascara – Have favoured a few over the years, primark, 2000 calorie, KIKO, and Too faced ‘better than sex’ – I’m not sure any is better than any other except that when it gets old, it isn’t worth using.
I sometimes wear eyeliner and eyeshadow when I go out. I am olive skinned so can get away with almost anything colourwise.

Aveda tinted moisturiser. I add it to my normal foundation, but also use it on its own.

Sorry to add to my already too detailed post, but if you find a foundation that really suits your face skin colour (I did, but then found it had been discontinued) keep the bottle (which still retains its colour as all of the foundation is stuck on the sides). I (by chance) found one from Primark that suited me, tried to get more, but discontinued. At least then, when you go shopping you have a benchmark on the colour.
