Nape undercut for thick wavy hair?

I have fine (but absolutely loads of it) wavy hair which usually grows out triangular, takes ages to dry when I wash it and is generally too high maintenance for me.

I’ve recently had it cut to shoulder length in an attempt to make styling it easier but it’s now made it even more triangular and puffy. As there’s so much of it, I’m wondering if I should get an undercut at the nape in order to take some of the bulk out of it and if that is a sensible idea?

Anyone done this? Would I just book a regular cut and blow dry at the hairdressers and they’ll be able to do this? I’m useless with hair and I’m just clueless about these things and I need help!

Sounds dangerous!

Have you tried super conditioned and curly girl?

I’ve done it. It works to a certain extent but the sides are still triangular. And it’s horrible to grow out. Lovely cool neck in summer though.

I love my nape undercut but it needs to be cut regularly which was a pain in lockdown!!

It keeps me cool in summer.

The only thing that has worked for me, with the same kind of hair, is frequent cuts where my hairdresser thins out my hair. If your hair is too weight it won’t hold a style.

Have you got layers? I have shoulder length curls/waves but have lots of layers cut in to try and manage the bulk! Also have you tried diffusing? I've recently gone back to this after giving up as it made my hair too frizzy. Not sure if it's because shampoos and conditioners have improved or if my hair is now a bit older but I can diffuse in minutes and minimal frizz

I have similar hair and had a nape undercut for a few years - usually when the back was so tangled and split-ends I couldn’t bear it any more.

I loved it but growing it out is hell.

I’ve got an undercut and similar sounding hair to you. It works well! I straighten mine too though, it’s still wild and triangular if I don’t.
I clipper it myself between cuts.

I’ve had several undercuts but shoulder length hair is a bit too short to look good if you want to keep wearing ponytails or buns sometimes.
When I grow the undercut out I get a chin length bob, so pretty painless.
I like having the undercut, it feels like having a normal quantity of hair.
