Fragrance recommendations for my son

He is 19 and severely autistic - isn’t that bothered about presents or Christmas so is extremely difficult to buy for but does love scents. He has some Hugo Boss aftershave that he loves but he also really likes orange and grapefruit fragrances ( he already has most of the Body Shop satsuma and grapefruit products). Does anyone have any recommendations for cologne, aftershave or other toiletries that he might like?

Hi,

Scent is so personal, its really impossible to recommend. Can you get out into the shops and actually smell stuff together? It can be really fun.

If that isn't an option, maybe look up the kind of perfume notes on the Fragantica website and make an educated guess?

You could try a sample website like fragrance samples UK and get a few to see if there are any he falls in love with.

Some perfume houses do scent advent calendars, but they can be very expensive.

Bear in mind that a lot of the more expensive/niche perfumes are unisex, ths can broaden your choice substantially!

Has he already got the Body Shop Kistna aftershave? Has grapefruit and spicy notes - my DS who is 17 loves it.

Molton Brown Grapefruit & Vetiver (range includes an eau de toilette and body wash etc) is a simple but lovely fragrance.

Thank you - those suggestions sound great. Unfortunately he has very high anxiety and so going into shops, especially at this time of year, isn’t pleasurable for him. But the fragrance samples idea is a great one.

There are is a choice of sample sites, bigger sizes are available to make the more expensive ones affordable (they are also called decants)

They are great if you're into exploring new scents, it can be an addictive hobby though!

Dior Sauvage is citrus & spice, gorgeous fragrance.

The Original Source shower gels are also really nice if he hasn’t tried them. Hope you can find him something he loves.
