How do you organise your wardrobe?

Do you do it in order of garment or colour or season etc? Do you out away summer clothes in winter completely or just hide them at one end of your wardrobe? Where do you store practical stuff which isn't for everyday (big waterproofs, hiking boots etc), especially if your house is tiny, like mine?

I have just one wardrobe of clothes, but I then have a few coats and shoes which I only need for the worst weather. I feel as if I'd like my practical wardrobe and my nice stuff wardrobe to be separate. I wear a uniform for work, so it isn't as simple as splitting into work and casual wear.

Wondering what other people do.

I do it by garment type, so blouses, jumpers cardigans in one section. Skirts and trousers in another, and dresses in another.

They are out if seasonal, stored if not. The random rarely used this like you mention go in a drawer for me.

I arrange mine by colour

MoneySuccessFameGlamour · 27/11/2021 08:46

Thanks. I have just remembered I do have a spare small cupboard in my room that the rarely used could go into. Muddy boots might need a clean though.

I'm going to try organising mine by how often I wear things. Favourite items at one end. Least favourite at the other.

Mine are by category and within that by colour. Very summery stuff is in another place rather than main wardrobe.

I put something in where there is space.

dudsville · 27/11/2021 08:58

If you have a least favourite category, do they even need to be in the wardrobe?

Well this is my cunning plan you see... things can make their way to the shit end. Once they're at the end and if they stay there for a month, I'm getting rid!

I have a tiny house too. One double wardrobe for everything except underwear, which is in a single drawer.
Tried sorting by colour but that didn’t work for me so went back to by category. We have a porch so shoes, bags, coats go in there. I only have a few summer/ winter only items so I pack them in a box at the bottom of the wardrobe. Workout/ gardening clothes in another small box at bottom of wardrobe. I don’t have many clothes so make sure I love everything I own

Coats go in wardrobe in store room as they are rarely used
Jumpers folded in smaller wardrobe section in a hanging ikea thing
Jackets eg denim next to that
Scarves on a scarf hanger next to that
Double wardrobe for winter dresses ( I swap seasons so summer in store room, harder when kids lived here!); trousers and skirts and shirts/ blouses all hung
Tee shirts and jeans in chest of drawer
Shoes in boxes under stuff in wardrobe and the ones I use most on floor
Boots in boxes under bed
All in category'sections' and vaguely in colour order ( but in reality black and blue)

Sooverthemill · 27/11/2021 11:18

I. Don't have a store room. I typed spare room!

cherrypiepie · 27/11/2021 11:24

Do you have under the bed storage? I find this great for these things. I have an ottoman bed and it's amazing!

I just bought a welly bag (well asked for one for xmas ) and you can get walking boot ones too to help with muddy boots.

I find shoes an absolute pain to store.

BurbageBrook · 27/11/2021 11:26

I have a big drawer of just-summer clothes which gets swapped over to winter clothes around April time, and which I never open really out of season. Apart from that, I organise by item and style e.g. jumper dresses, fancy dresses, going out tops, jumpers, skirts, trousers.

BurbageBrook · 27/11/2021 11:26

Shoes are in a big tin basket at the bottom of wardrobe and some in under the bed storage.
