Is the Liz Earle Christmas Cleanse & Polish Worth it?

SummerWhy · 26/11/2021 23:53

I've lusted after the Christmas editions of Liz Earle cleanse and polish every year. It's £30 though! I'd only buy it when on offer but it's still pricey. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it? The scent this year is rose and ginger - is it christmassy at all? Thanks!

It's too heavy for my skin and gives me spots. I guess that why it comes with a cloth, takes ages to get off

SpeckledyHen · 27/11/2021 05:46

Superdrug cleanse and polish is brilliant. Save your money.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/11/2021 05:49

The aldi knock off is exactly the same and is only 4quid

Soontobe60 · 27/11/2021 05:51

I agree with all of the above, however I got a Liz Earle set as a gift recently, and I love it. I used to use it years ago then stopped because of the cost.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 05:52

Too sented for me. I found just using the muslin cloth had a similar effect

Mumdiva99 · 27/11/2021 06:05

I haven't bought the Christmas one as I detest rose. But did get the new soap bars and some bits using a 30% off link for black Friday with free postage that kept popping up on FB. (I think I saw it had dropped to 25% yesterday...but worth a look round.)

Not trying to be rude....but did you use it right and wash it off with a wet cloth?

1 squirt of cleanse and polish- if you have the pump one. Rubbed over the face takes a few seconds to rinse off in the shower. If you have a tube then max 2cm squirt would do a whole face.

I've never heard anyone say it's hard to get off before.

Carrotte · 27/11/2021 06:36

I've never heard anyone say it's hard to get off before. I found it hard to remove without the muslin. But that was my fault for not doing the 'polish' in the cleanse and polish

Thefuturestory · 27/11/2021 06:44

I don’t think Liz Earle is worth the money these days. Products have moved on and hers are overpriced.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/11/2021 10:19

I'm not a fan of most of the LE offerings anymore, they've changed most of it, but i do love the original cleanse and polish and use it daily. It removes makeup easily, doesn't dry my skin or leave it greasy and doesn't work out that pricey of bought on offer (I always go for the 200ml tube which lasts me months and never pay full price e for it seeing as you can usually get a minimum of 20% off it somewhere). The superdrug is a way cheaper and nice alternative and works well but I wouldn't call it a dupe, just a similar concept.

I'd go for the original over any of the special editions, they're very fragranced. I tried the lavender one last year and found it unusable, it stung so much and smelled vile.

SummerWhy · 27/11/2021 11:08

I’ve used the Aldi and Superdrug hot cloth cleansers in the past but I fancy one with a nice fragrance. Is the original Liz Earle scented too? I have the Botanical Essence No.15 perfume and I’d love it if they did one that smelled like that!

I’ve just been looking at the rose and ginger reviews on the QVC website here and they’re saying the scent is very faint this year which is interesting as couple of comments here have said previous ones have been too heavily fragranced.

Its peppermint

Justmuddlingalong · 27/11/2021 11:30

I've been using Elemis cleansing balm. Same idea, apply and remove with a warm muslin or leave on for 20 minutes before removing. A big pot lasts ages because you only need a wee blob. It smells devine. I use the original one but I think there's a rose one too. There's a small pot too if you wanted to try it.

bonfireheart · 27/11/2021 12:03

Did nothing for me, didn't make my skin worse or better. Same with the superdrug version.

mrssmiling · 27/11/2021 12:17

I used to use Liz Earle, always bought on offer in the large 200ml tube. I agree with @Thefuturestory that products have moved on, and there are many excellent, more reasonably priced cleansers. Aldi sell a number…their cleansing balm is brilliant, but not regularly in stock. This M&S one is lovely, and rose fragranced.
www.marksandspencer.com/ultimate-cleanse-rose-cleansing-balm-100g/p/hbp60293035 Worth a try, and under £10 on offer.

Yep, I agree.

And I don't use the muslin cloth, i use a flannel.

JinglingHellsBells · 27/11/2021 12:30

I had a sample of it years ago (the ordinary one) and hated it.
It took ages to remove and I felt it was really pulling my skin trying to get it off.

If you want a polish- type cleanser, Boots do one (might be No 7, not sure) for around £9 or less, or there's REN which is £££, or you can use something like Super facial rose cleanser which you remove with a muslin cloth.

TBH it's the friction of the cloth that exfoliates and makes skin glow, rather than the cleanser. You can use any cleanser as long as it's not too runny and it will give the same glowy effect as LE.

frugalkitty · 27/11/2021 13:44

OP there is a cleanse and polish that matches No15....it was a limited edition but you can buy it on eBay! It's bourbon vanilla and clove bud and smells like 15 but not as strong.

If you like LE, it's worth looking on qvc.

SummerWhy · 27/11/2021 15:17

Thank you @frugalkitty, I’ve just bought one of bourbon vanilla and clove bud ones on eBay! I look forward to trying it Smile

I love the pixi glow mud cleanser, it really improved my skin and feels so lovely to apply. Nice fragrance too and only £12.

I don't think the original smells of peppermint at all.
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/11/2021 16:18

Oh I have it and that's what I get. It makes my skin tingle.

I have a tinted lip balm (non LE) which does the same- peppermint tingle.

@SummerWhy

QVC are selling this set at the moment if you fancied the body wash that goes with it:
