Any childrenswear buyers read this not all 7 year boys want black clothes

End of rant. My 5 year old needs age 7-8 now, he's tall, and everything is black or grey or Xbox or PS4 or a combination of all of those with ink splats. I'm not against funky coloured ink splats but he likes colours. Blocks of colour, what happened to stripes even ?

I feel your pain. Everything for that age is so dark and dingy.
I managed to get a 4 pack of long sleeve tops in Sainsbury's this week that are just plain but at least colourful! Mustard, dark orange, dark turquoise and dark green, but I think they had another combo too.

HappyDaisy2 · 26/11/2021 19:10

I feel the same! My son loves bright colours and pictures/characters on clothes but they are so hard to find once they are over 6 years old!
The best places I have found for clothes are (mostly their online shops) H&M and Next. Have found lots of good bits there.
But it is frustrating that most shops don’t cater!

vera16 · 26/11/2021 19:20

I feel this frustration. My go to is Zara even though I wouldn't buy from there for myself. And the sizing is generous which again is surprising.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 26/11/2021 19:25

I feel the same, sick of the sludge offerings in high street shops. We mainly shop at frugi. There's some great Preloved sites aswell for frugi

Ladyface · 26/11/2021 19:28

Totally agree - I’m sick of dull colours, camouflage and various games consoles on everything too.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 26/11/2021 19:30

I feel your pain and I have a DD, she isn't a fan of pink, thin, cropped or sparkly which basically rules out all the 'girls' clothes so we tend to shop in the 'boys' section and there it's all black, camo and xbox.

Came to suggest Frugi too, they do good sales and can pick up preloved too. Also look at Scandinavian brands - DUNs, Maxomorra.

Agree that the high street is lacking colour for boys, it's really frustrating.

underneaththeash · 26/11/2021 19:31

Next have loads! I’ve never dressed a child in black.

soundsystem · 26/11/2021 19:31

Lindex?

FoggySpecs · 26/11/2021 19:32

Fatface is good, some boden, whitestuff, and arket

inkworks273 · 26/11/2021 19:33

I agree. Boys clothes in general are rubbish. I notice it especially in Primark. The girls section is bigger, more colourful with lots of different options and then the boys section is full of dark greens, beige and greys. Yuck!

Crumblinginside · 26/11/2021 19:34

H&M

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 26/11/2021 19:44

We are Duns and max fans too @covetingthepreciousthings. Do you shop at babipur 🤣

BreakfastOfWaffles · 26/11/2021 19:48

Boden do bright colours up to about age 11.

Clammyclam · 26/11/2021 19:50

It does feel like you have to spend so much more to get a more varied colour palette

I also find boden joules fat face and next are my preferred options

Cheaper supermarket and Primark type places just don't appeal.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 26/11/2021 19:53

Just remembered you can sometimes get lucky in Uniqlo as well, but their range is pretty small.

Eileen101 · 26/11/2021 19:54

Frugi. I've just done by first Boden order in the sale and was very surprised at how bright they were - spent more than initially expected Blush also Tu can have some lovely bright bits in.

Grabbobabbo · 26/11/2021 19:55

I hate boys' clothes. My nearly 6 year old boy wants rainbows, sequins, colour. Not sludge, pokemon and Minecraft.

I get him stuff from the girl's section mostly tbh. Also because for some bizarre reason the 5-6 boys' stuff is about two inches wider than the 5-6 girls, and he's a skinny wee thing.

NatalieH2220 · 26/11/2021 19:56

The gaming thing really irritates me and my sons only 4. Now he's into the older boys clothes everything is gaming related. Hadn't actually realised about the colours too but you're right!

dannydyerismydad · 26/11/2021 20:04

H&M used to be great, but can be greigey these days too. They do have some lovely soft colourful city trousers though.

Uniqlo usually is our go to for tops.

But yes. It's hard to wade through the sludgy shite.

Level75 · 26/11/2021 20:07

I use this place. Loads of colourful clothes (for children of any sex).

DGFB · 26/11/2021 20:10

My boys don’t wear any of that but I do have to shop at Boden and Fat Face!

EuromamaAussiekids · 26/11/2021 20:13

Same. Boys clothes up to age 5ish can be lovely then they just seem to become a miserable mix of black and grey 🤮

vera16 · 26/11/2021 20:19

Off to check out DUN and Max...Smile

Lindex is also good. Lots of unisex. Anything Scandinavian is usually better and for sizing too.

Don't know what's happened to M&S sizing. Don't bother any more as it seems ridiculously small. Can't get the tops over his head.

heymammy · 26/11/2021 20:44

You're better off shopping online, George asda have some more colourful stuff as do next and a wee bit in m&s
