End of rant. My 5 year old needs age 7-8 now, he's tall, and everything is black or grey or Xbox or PS4 or a combination of all of those with ink splats. I'm not against funky coloured ink splats but he likes colours. Blocks of colour, what happened to stripes even ?

I’ve ranted a lot about this recently. For lower budget/easily accessible (e.g. look at in person) clothes, 6-7 seems to be the last size in prints and colours that aren’t about gaming/camo/skulls and sludge. Especially in pyjamas. Mine wore Max/Duns/LGR/Picallily when younger but the prints don’t appeal to them any more plus these are fairy expensive brands. I don’t seem to be able to wash frugi without it looking washed out and well-worn quickly.

I find H&M and Zara best.

IvorCutler · 28/11/2021 10:03

There’s loads about. Much of it is expensive but very well priced in the sales and has good resale value. I love mini rodini, it’s sustainable and ethical. Also unisex so most of my son’s clothes were passed down to my daughter.

Bobo choses, fresh dinosaurs, tiny cottons, and molo are also good. I think it’s possible to find stuff in Zara and H&M as well if you sift through.

IvorCutler · 28/11/2021 10:06

Arket too. Forgot about them.

SushiGo · 28/11/2021 10:09

Yes I agree. We like hype for colourful basics that aren't twee (sorry frugi, joules and boden) but they do say hype all over them which is annoying. Otherwise I am mostly picking through John Lewis & m&s for bright colours. We did get some good quality joggers in green and blue from sainsburys recently but it felt like a one off!

Hype do good backpacks as well and use largely unisex marketing.

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/11/2021 12:05

Just looked at Mini Rodini. £39 in the sale for a t-shirt!!!! No thank you.

IvorCutler · 28/11/2021 12:47

@RebeccaCloud9 I don’t know where you’re looking but I’ve had T-shirt’s from them for a tenner. Scout & Co often have excellent sales.

lupad · 28/11/2021 12:49

I do like mini rodini but yes £££

lupad · 28/11/2021 12:49

bobo choses lovely but again £££

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/11/2021 13:24

@ivorcutler t shirts that I can see range from £22-£50

RebeccaCloud9 · 28/11/2021 13:24

Must be cheaper in other sales though.

Tabbypawpaw · 28/11/2021 13:29

Have a look at Lindex, I sometimes get my son clothes from there.

Ooh ooh, something about radishes being mainstream vegetables? Wink

Op, m&s seems reasonably bright. We just tend to avoid as we find them quite slim fitting and don't fit round our nappies.

kowari · 28/11/2021 13:39

I never had a problem with DS 15, it was always easy enough to find plain tshirts in nice colours and he wore them with cargo shorts or blue jeans.

MintJulia · 28/11/2021 13:46

Ditto my 13yo. Not all teens want shapeless slouchy grey 'street' clothes either.

Struggled to find him warm 300gm fleeces this year. One in a sale from Trespass (last year's stock) and one from Rydale, the equestrian supplier.

Sirzy · 28/11/2021 13:49

I have never had an issue with finding bright clothes for Ds who is now 12. Easily done on the high street.

He chooses to wear polo shirts and their are plenty of non black options

kowari · 28/11/2021 13:51

Once they fit XS mens you can get 7 tshirts from Rapunai for £50, pick your own colours too.

Radishes are a mainstream vegetable!!!!
imnotareindeer · 28/11/2021 15:29

@Eileen101 My DS needs age 7-8 years, yes there are lots of bright colours in younger age clothes, but in most places they stop at age 6-7 ( Boden excluded) this was my point. I haven't struggled to find the stuff until he needs a larger size then it all turn black.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 28/11/2021 15:32

Tu are great and not £. Colourful and nice prints, such as woodland animals. Also Lindex. I love colourful clothes and ones with animals on! Zara used to be my go to as well, but now he is out of the 4 years and under range the clothes choice is quite plain and boring imo

DrCoconut · 28/11/2021 15:39

Don't forget the hideous slogans. "Here comes trouble", "I'm on Santa's naughty list", "mummy's little soldier" 🤮

KatharinaRosalie · 28/11/2021 17:57

I find H&M and Zara best.

H&M after size 140 is pure gamer sludge.

happytoday73 · 28/11/2021 18:02

Totally agree... The supermarkets and primary often just have black and grey. I end up with brighter options from next.

Jabbawasarollingstone · 28/11/2021 18:17

DD usually ventures into the "male" sections of online shopping. Try Truffle Shuffle, Redbubble, EMP for older children's and teen clothes. Gap are ok. DD is 15 so I remember the days when I used to buy second hand bundles from eBay...is this still a thing? Confused We used to go to Next, H&M, and Primark, though my girl doesn't tend to go there anymore. She does get some bits from charity shops and Vinted...might be worth a look.

This is annoying to know. For 7-8 it is better than the supermarkets but clearly another size or two up and they follow suit.
