Christmas Night Out Outfit Wobble

AmItoofatforthis · 26/11/2021 15:03

After much fruitless searching for a night out outfit I tried on a black sequin dress I found in H+M. My legs are pretty decent so even though it's reasonably short I decided to go for it. The doubts are starting to set in though. I probably ideally would have gone for a size up and it doesn't quite skim my tummy although it's not horribly tight either.....So, style jury of mumsnet. Am I going to look ridiculous if I wear this?

I will probably wear black tights to tone it down a bit and the shoes are just ones I took for trying on purposes.

You look amazing!

I had a pant of jealousy lol.

Defo no tights!

BunTooti · 26/11/2021 18:12

It looks great, no tights, shapewear shorts...and I say this as someone who always wears tights.

AmItoofatforthis · 26/11/2021 18:25

Any recommendations on where to get shorts/shapewear from? Would prefer not to be massively constricted.

Love it! The shoes are fab too.

Theblacksheepandme · 26/11/2021 19:06

Definitely do not wear nude tights. If I had amazing legs like you I would have them out as much as possible bare.

FlorenceWintle · 26/11/2021 19:10

You look fab. Bare legs. Nude tights are, alas, always frumpy and the black ruin the look.

5128gap · 26/11/2021 19:22

I get my shapewear shorts from amazon, they're amazing, but they're pretty constricting. You can get softer ones pretty much anywhere, Sainsburys, Matalan, M&S, Tesco.

Sammysquiz · 26/11/2021 19:31

I agree with the majority, no tights!! You look amazing in all 3 pics though. Have a great time!

Kenworthington · 26/11/2021 19:34

Gorgeous! You have incredible legs.I love the black tights with the sparkly shoes. Looks more edgy and modern than the bare legs and also 🥶 it’s too cold for bare legs!

AmItoofatforthis · 26/11/2021 19:36

Wow, can you all just join me on my night out as my pep squad? Grin I guess one of the benefits of being 40-something should really be learning not to give a monkeys if someone thinks you look a bit podgy or are drawing attention to yourself Grin Not quite there yet but this can be a baby step out from under the tyranny of the phrase 'stop showing off'.

I tried this on the other day but I need a size up and they didn't have it! Legs out looks best but if you would feel more comfortable in tights (which I usually do) j would go black 20 denier and black boots/shpe boots.

RobinPenguins · 26/11/2021 19:42

I think you look great either way but going against the grain here I really like the outfit with black opaque tights.

Thatsplentyjack · 26/11/2021 19:43

Oh and it's down to 20 pounds online if it's not discounted in the shop yet and you can wait a few days.

Thatsplentyjack · 26/11/2021 19:45

I've just ordered it 🤣 doesn't look as good on me though, and I'm 5' 10 so it's even shorter. I'll definitely need tights.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 26/11/2021 19:49

I really like it - will go against the grain and say with tights but possibly a lower denier than the ones you're wearing in the pic.

AmItoofatforthis · 26/11/2021 20:03

Ooh hope the bigger size works for you That'sPlenty I paid £27 in store so not outrageously more - I suspect it's meant to be a slightly looser fit than it is on me - there is no way I am a small in H+M !

Personally I think with tights is cooler. Or if you go bare legs I'd dress it down a notch with trainers. But really whichever you choose will look incredible on you, the dress suits you so much.

Got some pretty comfortable shapewear shorts at Sainsburys recently. Not insanely firm so quite wearable.

Switch82 · 26/11/2021 20:11

No tights and a better bra

Plump82 · 26/11/2021 20:12

I think i prefer it with tights too. But not keen on the shoes. I think it would look good with a pair of heeled boots.

onedancetwostep · 26/11/2021 20:13

Looks lovely. I'd say no tights

helicopterwonderwoman · 26/11/2021 20:15

No tights please. You have lovely legs and I would show it off all the time if I was blessed with a pair like that!

Fingers crossed. H&M are terrible for sizing. I think that size is just right on you though.
DGFB · 27/11/2021 13:17

No tights.
Tights just age you.
Definitely don’t wear with trainers.. go glam!

What a load of utter bollocks.

Ozanj · 27/11/2021 13:22

I love it with the tights and shoes.
