Boots for Icy Weather

I'm sosoo dreading the slippery icy pavements coming soon and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations to buying some boots that won't make me slip and slide. I've always been very hesitant going out and it makes for very uncomfortable walking trying not to fall over.

I thought about snow boots but are they just for dry skiing weather snow and not ice?

Just standard hiking boots will be fine

What you need are Yaktrax. The fit over any shoe/boot and are slip-proof.

@NeillyNoFive - I've got hiking boots so I'll trial these. Did some research and it was recommended to get rubber-soled footwear. My Scarpa are plastic, I think.

@beguilingeyes - I bought these years ago and found it very socially awkward going on buses and into the gritted streets of the city centre on my commute to work - the scratchy, click noises were just too loud!

I bought my Raintex snow boots for skiing but wear them in icy weather at home too.

They have a fold-out spikes feature which does away with the scratchy clicking noise you're talking about OP. You do have to carry a mini screwdriver in your bag to flip up the spikes without breaking your nails but it only takes a second.

Absolutely brilliant, warm, waterproof boots.

I’ve just got some timberland boots. So far found them to be sturdy and warm and I didn’t slip on the icy pavements this week.

In my experience, hiking boots often have Vibram soles which are a bit rubbish in icy conditions. The best non-slip, stylish and waterproof boots I’ve come across are Blundstones.
