BoB measurements… no way!!

I’ve been around long enough to remember the bra size interventions and happily threw away my M&S 34Bs and went into a 30D.

I’ve gained a little bit of weight since then, but not much. I didn’t wear a bra much in lockdown and have happily been keeping my norks warm in a cheap and cheerful Tesco bralette / crop top thing.

I treated myself to a new bra a couple of weeks ago but oh my days it’s uncomfortable. Tried on the sizes around the last measurement and settled on a 32D from next. I’ve worn it a couple of times and it’s just a rubbish fit. And it hurts! I put that down to not being used to underwires any more.

I’ve just done Boob or Bust to check and I’ve had to sit down I’m so shocked!! It’s made me a 28G Shock I do not have big boobs and so this isn’t making sense in my head. A 28 band is way too tight, I’ve tried that and failed.

No wonder a 32D was uncomfortable. Can’t get my head around a G cup!

I wear a 36A and bob told me I was a 34C, tried one and too big as I thought 🤷🏼‍♀️

CaptainCallisto · 24/11/2021 21:44

BoB worked wonders for me. I've gone from a 40D (M&S measured) to a 38G and holy moly, the difference has been amazing! For the first time in my life (I'm 36 and have been wearing bras since I was 12) I don't feel the need to take my bra off when I get home from work. I didn't realise how unsupported everything was until I got a bra that actually fits!

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2021 21:45

I recently did this and it said I was a 30H. I have been wearing a 32 F.

I bought several 30Hs but they all had to go back as the cup size was far too gaping at the top.

NotMyCat · 24/11/2021 21:45

A G cup on a smaller band isn't that big
See pic!

I’ve had the same problem. Not as bad in a balcony though.

If the 28 back is too tight, have you tried at 30FF or a 32 F?

I definitely don’t look like either of those ladies… I would say smaller for sure

I haven’t tried anything in the new sizes yet. I haven’t had on a bra this size since I was breastfeeding.

I'm not convinced it works on those of us that are less blessed in that department to be honest

DukeofEarlGrey · 24/11/2021 21:53

I am a 30G and whilst my boobs don't look as big as people might think a G cup would, they are still big. If you don't think you have big boobs then you are probably not a G! That photo is a good approximation imo.

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2021 22:00

Mine were all balcony. After lots of breastfeeding mine do not have much fullness, so balcony’s are alway best for lifting everything. The 30H was just too big a cup though.

Me neither. I'm at the smaller end of the scale, and this method has never worked for me. It gives me crazy small band sizes.
Jade308 · 24/11/2021 22:40

@CSJobseeker same I'll stick with my 34B's there is no way I'm anything bigger than that

NotMyCat · 24/11/2021 22:52

I wear a 34 band at a size 16
It depends on different things though, if you're very slim then a band size up can be needed as you have less padding!
The easiest way is, is the band supporting you or can you pull it out 4 inches?
My friend was moaning about sports bras, she was measured by M&S. Her bra band was up around her shoulders, and I could yank it out at least 8 inches and she wondered why it wasn't working Grin

LadyJJ · 24/11/2021 23:48

I'm big boobed and wear a 34H (fitted by bravissimo). I'm a squishy 12/14 hourglass shape.
BoB reckons I'm a 30K. I've tried one and it doesn't fit, band cuts me in half and the cups are wrinkly.

MultiplicationPractice · 25/11/2021 08:57

I’m a size 8, slim apart from a pot belly! A 28 is way too tight, some 30s are ok and 32 is better although probably on the loose side. I need a 31…

dropitlikeitsloth · 25/11/2021 09:11

Just went on the BoB site and I’m apparently a 32GG 🤣 I’m really not, all my bras are 36C, I expected a little difference (thought I’d come out as 38B) but this is stupid. I definitely don’t need to shop outside of average sizes!

Pheasantlysurprised · 25/11/2021 10:36

Ive never subscribed to any of this stuff, but i do recall the interventions and so on.
I am probably a bit weird, but i buy my bra's in S/M/L type measurements. I spent years when i was younger trying to find this mythological perfect fit and it either hurt or bothered me in some way or another.
I am roughly a 32b, and wear a size 'small' bra. I dont like seams or wires so use a soft little triangle type thing. I have a set of them in different colours and they work with everything i wear. This might be because i dont need a lot of support, but they're not exactly tiny either. I also used to search for high quality bra's and eventually just gave up and get them from primark Blush for £5.

FaoinDrualus · 25/11/2021 12:35

The letter is not the volume of the bra - it's the difference between the underbust and the bust (measured at where is biggest for you).
A 28G has the same volume as a 34E, but the cup will look smaller on the 34E as it's wider but not so deep.
If you were comfy before in 32D (34+4=36) - then a 28G (28+9= 37) is not much bigger volume-wise. So if you've gained some weight, a 28G is unlikely to feel better than your 32D did, and even less so if you gained an inch or two underbust.
For comfort, I think what you are doing also makes a difference, - so out shopping/work etc you might want the 30 as it's more supportive - with a correspondingly bigger cup, but at home where you might be sitting/lying around you might want a 32 for comfort, but then a smaller cup size. And the sizes can vary by type and brand, so it's best to try a few around the size you think you are.

MultiplicationPractice · 03/12/2021 10:58

Little update. Bought myself a 30E plunge style, anything bigger cup than that looked too big. The 30 band still feels a little tight and I should have got the F cup as I’ve got some spillage near my arm pit. However. Time to change my thinking… this new cup size is not small 😳😂

Roominmyhouse · 03/12/2021 12:24

I went from wearing a 36DD to wearing a 34G. Bras definitely fit me way better! The band did feel tighter to begin with but I got used to it. But you also have to find the right style of bra for your boobs, I can’t wear moulded cups or plunge as the shape of my boobs isn’t right for those styles.

dementedpixie · 03/12/2021 12:31

I was measured for years as 40C by M&S. When I did it myself I was more of a 36GG! I wear 36GG or H depending on brand/style. I tend to buy a 22/24 top to fit my boobs in. I'm a 18/20 on the bottom
