I have as many tops but didn't wear them all because I could never find the right skirt. I moaned I had nothing to wear,

I then found a skirt that I really liked. So, I took it to a dressmaker and had the exact same style made in 14 colours. It was expensive but unless, I drastically change shape, I will probably never need to buy a skirt again and I now I can wear each and every one of my top because I can match them all with at least one of my skirts.

Cakequeen1988 · 24/11/2021 15:29

Personally I think it’s a crazy amount!

Many look similar and lots are so tightly packed you can’t see them to choose.

I’d get rid of half and start from there, you can’t possibly be wearing them all!

EssexLioness · 24/11/2021 15:31

I’m amazed at the people on here that don’t think 3 whole wardrobes, stuffed full isn’t many clothes!

Cam22 · 24/11/2021 16:01

It’s better to buy more expensive clothes. Those clothes looks a bit ordinary - from what I can see.

TuftyMarmoset · 24/11/2021 16:07

Yes it’s loads - probably twice the amount I have. The amount of jeans hidden back there!

Charity shop anything you don’t wear or don’t like and then work out what you need to fill the gaps that are left.

TheCheesyBakedBeanGetsGlam · 24/11/2021 16:09

Looks a lot like my wardrobe and I never have anything to wear either!

RedDeadRoach · 24/11/2021 16:33

The problem of fast fashion neatly illustrated right there in three pictures. Piles of clothes yet you've got "nothing to wear".

Exactly! Much better to plan outfits, spend on quality items you really love and will last. A lot of this looks like cheap stuff that will just end up in landfill
DukeofEarlGrey · 24/11/2021 22:24

I'm surprised by how many people say that have a lot more clothing than OP - are the pictures of three different wardrobes?

Yes 3 different wardrobes but not sure everyone realises that
PersonaNonGarter · 24/11/2021 23:13

Is it Summer and Winter?

Basically, yes it looks too much. It’s the wardrobe of someone who would be better off with fewer but better quality items.

EuromamaAussiekids · 25/11/2021 06:07

Yes that's a huge amount of clothes, plus they all look the same anyway. Maybe buy something a bit different?

FindingMeno · 25/11/2021 06:10

I think so but we're all different.
If you wear them all, it's fine.
If not weed out what you don't wear, and work out what you need to link different things, whether that be a black turtleneck or a good white shirt.

nordica · 25/11/2021 06:20

Yes although I have more 😬
It looks to me your problem is having lots of similar things and lots of tops/blouses. Maybe you don't have the right things that work together as outfits? You could probably get rid of 10 tops and replace them with two skirts or trousers that go with them, and similarly get rid of 5 jumpers and get one jumper/cardi or jacket that is more versatile.

I also pack away out of season (summer/winter) clothes each year so there is less in my wardrobes and it's easier to see everything.

RedDeadRoach · 25/11/2021 08:49

I don't think the op's problem will be solved by buying even more clothes. Wear what you've got.

@EuromamaAussiekids - I’d get a friend or relative around (have done in past) to give me honest unbiased advice on what to keep or get rid of (eBay or charity shop).

I did actually save a long white sleeved top/T-shirt, Elle navy jogging bottoms and a pretty sparkly necklace which were going to the charity shop as I thought I could use them.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 25/11/2021 10:08

It’s a lot, I have about two-thirds of that for all seasons, plus another wardrobe I hang my coats in - where are your coats?

I find it helps to keep a spreadsheet of everything so I can see at a glance what I already have, before shopping. You seem to have a lot of similar clothes so perhaps think about them - for example if you have 3 white t-shirts, would you ever wear no. 3 in preference to 1 or 2?

Anything you aren’t sure of, bin-bag in the loft.

Capsule wardrobes look appealing but you need to have enough jumpers etc to allow laundry and drying time, and enough holiday clothes to cover time away.

IamGusFring · 25/11/2021 11:01

Shame that the OP hasn't come back but not surprising when she's ben told her wardrobe looks full of cheap landfill clothes .

TuftyMarmoset · 25/11/2021 11:28

Isn’t it inconvenient to have your coat in a wardrobe? I have two coats, a raincoat and a pea coat, and I keep them on a hook next to the front door.

Bunce1 · 25/11/2021 11:42

I would say that it is too many for the space so it is probably not very easy to see what you have at a glance.

I would do a cull and take out quite a few items that are clearly spring/summer and free up some space.

I would also consider trimming down some repeats. I do this by passing on still loved but rarely worn items to mates, so I can borrow them back!

Gonnagetgoing · 25/11/2021 11:48

@IamGusFring

@IamGusFring - I don't think her wardrobe looks full of cheap landfill clothes but it does look like:-

a) lots of synthetic fabrics and prints - nothing wrong with these if you like them. A few florals, leopard and other prints.
b) I can see a denim shirt or jacket in one of the photos.
c) A lot of it is messy and does need sorting.
d) In one photo there seems to be candles/makeup/perfume in a box? there and another there is scarves and necklaces - appear to be hanging up. I wouldn't put makeup/perfume in a box or candles in my wardrobe. The scarves/necklaces hanging are a good idea.

e) some of the jumpers folded up you can see the colours and also the tops folded - but the tops I can less so see the colours clearly.

If it were me I'd:-

a) clear out the candles, makeup etc into another storage area where you can see them and where you'll use them. there also seems to be 2 scarves new in packaging.
b) sort the prints preferably by pattern (leopard) and maybe even by colour.
c) I can see the jeans hidden away - they need to be sorted and preferably out where you can see them - quite a few different pairs.

I've had help sorting out my clothes (as I have a lot) in the past and what really helped me was sorting them into categories and storage areas which makes it much easier to see what I wear on a daily/weekly basis, what I have, what I don't have etc.

No one is trying to bash the OP's clothes choices here and I'm certainly not! Smile

@TuftyMarmoset - good point - all my coats are on hooks in hallway and any other jackets (biker etc) I either keep there or move to wardrobe especially if not worn as often as my usual coats.

Bontanics · 25/11/2021 12:10

Its a lot of clothes. It looks like about hundred tops there and a big pile of jumpers and jeans so you could wear a different item every day for over 4 months and not wear the same thing twice. With all those prints nothing will go together unless clashing prints is your thing. It's so tightly packed you probably can't even see what you have and it'll all going to come out creased.

Ermm … I have two lightweight anoraks, a heavier 3/4 outdoor jacket, thick/thin ‘smart’ raincoats, wool coat, duffle, denim jacket and a couple of blazers.
I do a lot of walking, both for leisure and because I don’t have a car.
