Not too much… I have a lot more. First thing, one weekend, take everything out. Try it all on. Do you like it? Be brutally honest, even if it means chucking out things you’ve only worn once.

Then, put back the things you do like BUT I organise my clothes according to colour.

Could you Try rearranging so it all moves from dark to light? It might help you understand what you have? What works together etc. Good luck. If you can’t be bothered with/don’t have time for a whole big try on, the act of rearranging according to colour is a great start in my view,

IamGusFring · 24/11/2021 08:39

I agree there needs to be some kind of system here involving short and long sleeves and colour . Also agree you need to pull them all out and have a good look - 10 animal prints ? You don't need them all. Anything slightly tatty or worn - get rid . Anything you " might" wear - get rid . Donate to charity or sell others . Buy yourself something quality and lovely .

dudsville · 24/11/2021 08:49

I don't know, but can I ask what's the black and white checking sleeve top in the first pic toward the left please?

Practicebeingpatient · 24/11/2021 08:56

It looks like my mums wardrobes, everything packed in so closely you can't see what's in there so you end up wearing the same few things near the front over and over again.

Mum has just downsized from a 4 bedroom house to a one bedroom flat and I've been tasked with clearing the house. She took the items she wore regularly and then I sorted out her wardrobes. Amongst other things I found over 30 pairs of BNWT socks, over 100 pairs of BNWT tights, over 40 gilets in various shades of blue and grey, about 30 black cardigans and 7 cashmere pashminas that have never been out of the packaging. I also found some very nice old favourites that I took round to her new flat that she had forgotten she owned because they have been squashed out of sight for years. She now has a very nice capsule wardrobe that will do for any occasion stored in plain sight in one fitted wardrobe.

I am now caught up in the laborious process of disposing of over 100 bin bags of unwanted garments - this from a woman who said she didn't have much!

Sadly she is a compulsive shopper and hoarder so I have no doubt that in a few years time I will be repeating the process.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/11/2021 09:00

Not to me, no. But I probably have a lot! Choosing what to wear every day is a joy, I just love the process of putting outfits together.

NashvilleQueen · 24/11/2021 09:02

There's a woman who likes animal print is my immediate thought.

Funny! There are those style gurus who insist on it. Like it’s the cool thing to wear at 40 something. Tbh I liked it aged 18, from a charity shop. A great trash look. Worn now & I end up looking like Doreen (I think that was her name?) from birds of a feather.
IamGusFring · 24/11/2021 09:35

This would make a great TV show 😂😂 What kind of person am I by viewing the wardrobes !

5128gap · 24/11/2021 10:24

It looks the same as it did last time! Did you do any streamlining or buy anything more since then?

Floralnomad · 24/11/2021 10:27

The problem isn’t the amount it’s the fact that it’s messy and cluttered so you can’t see what you’ve got . You need to go through it all , have a clear out of things you will never wear and then it will be better .

Floisme · 24/11/2021 10:42

I have more than that, some of them are over 100 years old. The day MrFlo asks if he has too many gadgets is the day I'll start worrying about it.

TeaAddict235 · 24/11/2021 10:46

Is this the DP asking?

DP: Let's go out tonight
OP: I don't have anything to wear.
DP: let's have a look in that wardrobe. I'm certain something arrived yesterday in the post. Aaaarg!

Wink

Don't worry OP, my bag and hair product collection could rival your tops collection.

TheCategoryIs · 24/11/2021 10:48

I probably have the same amount as Pic 1 and 3 (assuming these are the same thing), but I have it ordered by colour and I try not to duplicate clothes so there’s a bit of variety, albeit I have a very consistent style and effectively wear the same ‘uniform’ every day. I think it helps to realise there are only 7 days in a week, one (or more) of those you might not even go out and even if you only do washing once a fortnight you don’t need all that much. Personally I think the challenge is managing with less stuff but not getting bored by it, so ideally items need to be worn in lots of different combinations. The payoff is lots of stuff you want to pull out and wear and not struggling every morning.

WeRateSquirrels · 24/11/2021 10:52

I was a classic loads of clothes, nothing to wear person. Or at least wore the same few outfits on repeat. Had a massive clear out and put together a capsule wardrobe for the season (out of existing clothes), and now feel like I have much more to wear. It's some sort of mysterious paradox!

As others have said, it's really helpful to be able to see everything you have. Some people would think to go searching for that red top that really goes with this particular skirt that they want to wear today. I would just completely forget I owned the red top if I couldn't see it, so a smaller wardrobe works for me.

EssexLioness · 24/11/2021 11:00

Yes, it’s a huge amount of clothing. 3 wardrobes and they are all absolutely stuffed! I have one wardrobe for everything (except one large drawer for underwear). Around 40 items in total excluding shoes, bags and jewellery. I always feel like I have plenty to wear and I love all my clothes.
You have had some great ideas above re de cluttering. You do seem to have a lot of duplicate items eg jeans, leopard print tops. If you never seem to have anything to wear it is because you are not thinking about your purchases and how you will use them. Don’t just buy something because it is pretty. Think about if it suits your body shape, and you feel good in it, what other clothes will this go with to make an outfit, where will I wear this, does it suit my lifestyle etc. A smaller wardrobe full of clothes you love and wear will serve you much better than a huge amount of mismatching items that don’t make you feel great

Cam22 · 24/11/2021 12:54

Far too much and too much print, particularly animal print. I have a much more curated collection, I realise.

ambereeree · 24/11/2021 13:04

I feel better about my own wardrobes crammed full of clothes after seeing yours @namechangedaily
I'm also finding I dont' have anything to wear. I'm now doing a big clear out some to sell on ebay and most to the charity shop.

Gonnagetgoing · 24/11/2021 13:11

I probably have a similar amount but spread out and I like prints (florals) etc.

I can see too many similar leopard prints there. Also the jumpers appear to be just crammed above the dresses.

I separated my smarter clothes/workwear and dresses and jackets, put jumpers in 3 drawers below this, T-shirt’s and summer tops in 1 drawer.

Then had cardigans/leggings in 1 drawer, bras/knickers in another, sweatshirts and long sleeved T-shirt’s in another, jeans and trousers, jeggings in another drawer, evening tops in another drawer and exercise/nightwear in another.

I also have tights/vests in a small drawer and socks in another and a drawer full of scarves, gloves, etc.

I have however not used and emptied a 4 drawer unit, and also 2 drawers of another unit.

The good thing about separating stuff and trying not to buy more (though I got 2 jumpers and a new winter Parka coat recently and vest is I can see far easier what I do and don’t wear (hardly wear the leggings, cardigans, dresses etc).

But that’s partly as I WFH, don’t go out a huge amount right now etc. But it gives me something to work towards.

I had a huge clear out (embarrassed really how much I got rid of!) but it included jewellery, footwear etc.

In your case I’d try to see what really suits me eg colour and style wise and work from there. Also wear for what? Right now I know that besides summer I’ve existed in jeggings and sweatshirts (with long sleeved tops or vests underneath) for most of the year in daytime switching to jumpers in winter. Footwear has been slippers and trainers. Try to work out that for you.

EssexLioness · 24/11/2021 13:11

Just seen on one of your posts from earlier this month that you said after a recent clothes cull that you hardly have anything left apart from leggings and baggy t shirts. This clearly isn’t true OP looking at how much you do actually own. And presumably you had even more before your recent cull. So I’m wondering why you feel this way. Are you keeping lots of clothes that no longer fit you? So although you have lots of clothes, you don’t have many you can actually wear? You also said that you recently spent £1000 with little to show for it. I’m wondering how that can be the case and what you actually bought. Do you have a problem with over spending/ hoarding/ shopping in general that needs addressing? If so there is plenty of help and advice out there and you are definitely not alone

Time40 · 24/11/2021 13:51

It doesn't look like much to me. Having such a small wardrobe would make me nervous!

But it looks like you've been repeat buying, OP - duplicating things, so it's not surprising that you feel you've got nothing to wear.

Gonnagetgoing · 24/11/2021 13:52

@Jumpalicious - I’ve never liked leopard or animal print until I met an old school friend in my late 30s who liked it and had 2 friends from a similar time who liked it a lot too.

I did buy a glam leopard top and a fun fur I think in grey with leopard print (in black) but they really weren’t my style and I got rid. At the end of the day it’s really not me and I’ve now ditched it all though I do have a pair of top shop leopard print knickers Grin

I'd say no, but that's not because I'm fashionable, more because I'm a hoarder and my house came with a walk in wardrobe Confused

I noticed you have a lot of duplicate looking outfits. The animal prints are sticking out in particular so you might find you're not able to wear each one in a row hence not always finding an outfit available.
May be worth having a good charity shop closest out and replacing some items but say get rid of 5 animal print items and replace with one that you'll wear all the time.

rainybowday · 24/11/2021 14:11

Clear out not closest
