What to wear first day in office job

I've worked in food industry 20+ years so my "style" was apron and hairnet.
I've now got an admin job and I have no idea what to wear! I have my interview outfit but the weather was still warm then so I can't wear that now. It's not a responsible role so I don't want to dress like I'm the boss, but I don't want to look too informal for an office.
Can anyone suggest an outfit for my first day? Cash is tight until pay day so I'll be heading to the charity shops.

Cardigan with a dress? Tights and flat boots?

Did you seen any others in the office when you were interviewed? Offices can vary so much in levels of dress. But I agree a dress and cardigan are a good start.

I second a dress and cardigan or jacket and take a cardigan with you as if it's casual you'd prefer to wear that. Tights and shoe boots or shoes.

So much depends on the office culture/dress code. What did your interviewers wear when they interviewed you?

A plain dark coloured dress with tights and boots is a fairly safe bet - "smart" enough without risk of leaving you looking overdressed.

Trousers, jumper and jacket. Wooden skirt top and cardigan. Dress and cardigan. Best of luck

Totally depends on the office. We used to be 'smart casual' but since we've been back from WFH and a turbulent time for the business the boss' attitude is now 'wear whatever you want, just please keep turning up' so anything (within reason) goes.

Can you ask in advance what the office dress code is?

Plain knee length dress, black opaque tights and boots/loafers. Perfect business casual until you suss out what the dress code is.

My typical winter workwear is a knee length jersey wrap dress with a blazer or cardigan, black tights and ankle boots.

I buy most things second hand, and have had some great stuff from Ebay.

Black wide leg trousers, black sweater (or whatever colour) tucked in at the front. Looks smart but not too much
