I’m looking at getting DD a kit for Christmas, I’ll be getting it from Amazon. Any tips on which make is the best? There’s so many and I haven’t got a clue Grin

I use mylee. I bought direct from their website, but they might be on Amazon? They have a full starter kits for about £130ish that has everything she’d need, including 8 different colours.

Great thank you. There’s some on Amazon for £30-50. Is there a big difference? I don’t mind paying more if it’s worth it.

I have done gel nails for almost 20 years and I've used many different makes. The one I use now is the best I've ever used. It's NYK. They do a lot which is around £100 which has the gel lamp and everything you need. My lamp has lasted me 4 years so far and still going strong. I get my refill nail tips and the gel from Amazon when I run out.

Sorry I meant they do a KIT.

I got a 15 quid lamp from amazon during first lockdown. Has done the job fine. A pro might pick holes with it but I easily cured gel nails that lasted 2 weeks at a time.

Be very very careful if your DD has any allergic tendencies. The home kits don't cure the gels as thoroughly as the salon lamps, and non-professional applications are likely to touch the skin. The net effect of this can be to create an allergy to the methylacrylates in the gel. I speak from experience: developed shocking allergy, fingers swollen like chipolatas, blisters, lost all my nails, pains to the elbow, and red weeping rashes on my face and body where I'd touched. Now I can't have white dental fillings/crowns as they also use methacrylate.

Great thank you all.

Ouch sounds painful. My DD is 17 and never had any allergic reactions to anything, something to bear in mind though thanks.

I've got the sensationail one from Amazon and I am impressed. It was about £50 and seems good to me

I just bought the Mylee kit from there website a few weeks ago. I really like it and would recommend. I signed up with them to get 10% off my order.

You’ve put me off! That’s awful!

Thank you all. I’ve seen the Mylee one on Amazon, it looks good but wasn’t sure if it would be ok as it’s quite a bit cheaper than some of the others!

Good to know about getting LED, thanks!

I ordered a mylee led kit on Amazon recently. Reviews seem good for this brand on other sites as well so hoping my DD likes it. It was in the Black Friday stuff.

happilybemused · 22/11/2021 13:44

I bought the Mylee pro LED lamp from Amazon at the start of lockdown. About £45 and no issues at all. Think you could also get a starter kit with it for about £89. Again, Amazon
