If you're peri/ menopausal what do you wear to bed in winter?

I'm fairly sure I'm in peri. I've also lost weight recently meaning I'm more susceptible to feeling cold than I'm used to some of the time especially in the evening, but going to bed in my heattech leggings and heattech t-shirts and waking up sweaty Envy (not envy obviously...)

What's the solution/ best option? Do I have an excuse to buy silk pyjamas?

Sleep in sleeveless knee length nightdress. Electric blanket on for getting into bed.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 21/11/2021 15:42

thedevilinablackdress thanks. This is not the answer I wanted, because I don't want an electric blanket and sleeveless knee length night dress, at all. But I know what I want and what I need might not be the same Sad

I think you can definitely justify silk pjs!

You could do a nightie and a hot water bottle instead of electric blanket maybe. But I also think silk pjs would work really well.

EssexLioness · 21/11/2021 16:12

Really loose, sleeveless cotton nightie. I get hot then cold then hot again etc through the night so I get rid of our duvet and have lots of layers of sheets, blankets, bedspread etc that I can throw on or off at will. Also usually take a hot water bottle with me as feel chilly when I first crawl into bed but can soon get rid of it when I warm up properly.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 21/11/2021 16:13

T-shirt and shorts.

BlueFlavour · 21/11/2021 16:14

Nothing
Pyjamas and nighties annoy me Grin

SnarkyBag · 21/11/2021 16:15

I still wear cotton pj’s but have ditched the duvet and now have a lovely cotton flat sheet followed by fleece blankets and my empty duvet cover over the top. Lovely and warm when I need it but easy to strip off a layer when I get hot.

BlueFlavour · 21/11/2021 16:15

And yes you definitely need silk pyjamas.

RunnerDown · 21/11/2021 16:16

Cotton shorts and vest pjs .

ZenNudist · 21/11/2021 16:18

Oversized t shirts
Fluffy socks

ISpyCobraKai · 21/11/2021 16:19

Cotton pjs with electric blanket before getting into bed.
Also several cats to warm me up/chat to during inevitable night wakings!

MeredithGreyishblue · 21/11/2021 16:20

PJs make me itch in bed. I've gone for brushed cotton bedding for warmth and sleep in just knickers. After many experiments with combinations!

Sadik · 21/11/2021 16:20

Could you link to good silk pjs? I found menopause an excellent excuse to buy a lovely wool duvet Grin (Don't wear anything in bed, but I do like lovely PJs for Sunday mornings etc!)

TitsInAbsentia · 21/11/2021 16:24

You'll be much more comfortable if you can get the sweats under control - have you been to see your GP? You should get checked out just to make sure it's not something else. In the meantime avoid synthetic fibres, I also used to have a change of nightclothes next to the bed so I could do a quick change rather than trying to sleep in damp clothes.

JMAngel1 · 21/11/2021 16:24

I used to wear fleece jamis to bed which is unthinkable now!
I usually wear satin negligee type slip or a cami top and french knickers

PlanDeRaccordement · 21/11/2021 16:28

Doesn’t matter if you’re like me, you wake up soaked through whatever you are wearing. I just hop out of bed, strip, rub off with sweaty pjs, and put on a fresh pair and go back to sleep. It would be worse not to wear anything at all though because then you’d have to get up, change the sheets and blankets/duvet.

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 21/11/2021 16:28

I don't wear anything in bed, I find my body can regulate it's own temperature more easily with clothes on. When I stay elsewhere and wear a T-shirt or something for politeness I always wake in the night sweating. I bought myself some nice fleece bedding for the winter so I never get cold and it's breathable so I'm never too hot.

imnotacelebritygetmeoutofhere · 21/11/2021 16:29

Sorry - that was meant to say

regulate it's own temperature more easily WITHOUT clothes on

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 21/11/2021 16:34

Sadik I haven't got that far, although I saw some I want on Paper London for absolutely silly money - will have to buy them elsewhere. AntiCornLaw thank you for saying what I want to hear.

Only my late grandparents had electric blankets, I really don't want one but I'm definitely too cold in the cotton shorts and t-shirt pyjamas I was wearing in summer, hence wearing heattech leggings atm which are meant to be thermal underwear really... DH likes them - I never normally wear leggings, usually jeans 😜 I'm the right temperature getting into bed but wake up sweaty.

With teens in the house I wouldn't feel right sleeping naked all night, though I realise I could leave clothes by the bed for going to the toilet at night/ unforseen emergencies/ waking them up for school in the morning. Anyway I'm sometimes really cold, sometimes sweaty, like having a blimin fever BlushConfusedSad so I thought I definitely need silk WinkGrin

TitsInAbsentia I'm not having sweats at any other time. I am due a smear and where I live (EU) its with a gynecologist anyway, so I should book an appointment, you're right. My gynecology practice doesn't seem to particularly recognise peri - they have a menopause specialist but the blurb on their bit of the website is about women's health after the 50th year of life, and I'm "only" 46... Hopefully they'll be more reality oriented if I talk to them face to face...

Still sleep nude!

Sometimes need a thin fleece on top of my 3tog duvet.

I just seem to run so warm!

PandaToTheMasses · 21/11/2021 16:50

I highly recommend a merino nightie and wool duvet.

RandomMess · 21/11/2021 16:58

Wool duvet is amazing and much kinder than silk.

AntiCornLawLeague · 21/11/2021 17:05

I think there is ethically made silk (or vegan silk) available these days. Agree, the traditional variety is cruel

StrongArm · 21/11/2021 17:07

I got cyberjammies pyjamas for Xmas last year - the jersey ones which are modal in the main - the bottoms and the top. They are brilliant. At first I couldn't understand what the allure was but I'm neither too hot or too cold. And I hate things tight on me and they are reassuringly loose!
