If you're peri/ menopausal what do you wear to bed in winter?

I'm fairly sure I'm in peri. I've also lost weight recently meaning I'm more susceptible to feeling cold than I'm used to some of the time especially in the evening, but going to bed in my heattech leggings and heattech t-shirts and waking up sweaty Envy (not envy obviously...)

What's the solution/ best option? Do I have an excuse to buy silk pyjamas?

I sleep naked, but I did buy a wool filled duvet. I tend to run hot (I say this but right now I'm shivering) go for natural material. Buy the best 100 % cotton in the highest thread count you can afford. No nylon/polyester/man made stuff.
Pre peri I slept in cotton joggers and thickish cotton top.
The duvet made a huge difference. I've been away and had to have a non wool duvet, sweated the entire night, quilt on/quilt off all bloody night.

gingerpassthegin · 21/11/2021 17:15

Every nightdress I ever see has sleeves and is made of thermal fabric. We don't all live in sub zero temperatures! I gave up and bought two M&S beach dresses, cotton, shoestring straps rather than sleeves, jobs a good 'un.

Delatron · 21/11/2021 17:38

Just pants as feel exposed naked. Always still too hot. Can’t even wear a vest. And I don’t have the heating on and the window is open!

I do have a weighted blanket but tend to kick that off. Looking forward to the closer temperatures so I can keep the blanket on.

ISpyCobraKai · 21/11/2021 17:43

I take meds for sweats, I still sweat.
Temperature doesn't seem to make a difference either, I'm either too hot abd sweaty, or too cold and sweaty.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 21/11/2021 17:44

It is 2°c here atm, -3° forecast for tonight, so it is already cold where I live. Snow forecast for mid week.

Wool duvet... Hmm maybe. We already have more duvets than we need, but if it would help its worth it...

PandaToTheMasses where did you get merino wool nightwear? I do like merino wool jumpers...

AntiCornLawLeague vegan silk isn't silk though is it? Like vegan leather isn't leather. They're something else entirely - maybe better, maybe not, but either way not actually silk/ leather in any way. Silk and leather can't be vegan by definition, in the same way night can't be day and 2+2 can't equal 63. humpf. GrinBlush

Lol yes I should have put that inverted commas really; Vegan 'silk'!

Reminds me of the Friends episode where Monica gets irate about low fat mayonnaise "it's NOT mayonnaise"! She's not wrong Grin

cyberjammies won't deliver to the EU. They'll deliver anywhere else in the world, just not the EU. 95% of the companies who had teething problems with customs after Brexit have sorted themselves out and are back to business as usual with EU orders, so I assume its lack of will on the part of cyberjammies, which puts me right off the company. Pity.

Have the opposite problem. I'm always cold. Have discovered Rouge Gorge cotton/cashmere vests, Decathlon skiwear as a layer under my jeans etc.
Due to an under active thyroid that dives into hypothermia when the wind's off the Massif Central, I'm rather overweight, but am thinking longingly about the merino wool blankets I used to have complete with a furry bonnet made from a purring Maine Coon kitten. Just need about 3 of them.

newtb · 21/11/2021 18:00

Kittens, that is. 2 blankets would be enough.

Sewaccidentprone · 21/11/2021 18:09

In summer I wear short leggings and a vest, in winter full length leggings and a tshirt. I go up a size so they’re comfy and only wear cotton or cotton Lycra. We also have cotton bedding, plus a wool duvet and wool mattress topper.

My feet are usually cold when I go to bed in Winter, so I use a hot water bottle wrapped in a pillow case. I can push it to the side as soon as my feet are warm.

Also always have the bedroom window open otherwise I get a headache.

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/11/2021 18:09

I generally sleep in nothing - too sweaty, lol - but have a silk cami set too. Defo get the silk jammies op.

tolerable · 21/11/2021 18:11

i bought the men version of primarks brushed cotton, shirt style/mens pjs. ..small man is size 10-12-14(depending where you hold weight).. i love them..in the burning up/nightsweats...can kick covers off ..when chilly..they are so soft(sit looser cut the ladies pjs)n cosy when cold, but not irritating or contributory to..toastyhot events.

Kikkomam · 21/11/2021 18:13

Before HRT I loved to sleep in 100 percent cotton kaftans from an online shop. Long enough to feel cosy but also cool. I still love them actually and dh doesn't hate them either so I didn't feel too hideous wearing them

GoodnightGrandma · 21/11/2021 18:14

Knickers and a vest. I can’t sleep naked for some reason.

Girlintheframe · 21/11/2021 18:19

I ended up ditching all linen unless 100% cotton. Only wear cotton to bed or sometimes modal but find cotton better.
Next I'm going to invest in a wool duvet.
Keeping the bedroom cool helps too.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 21/11/2021 18:26

Anyone heard of/ bought from Dagsmejan? A search just threw them up for Merino wool sleepwear - looks tempting...

OP posts:
PandaToTheMasses · 21/11/2021 18:46

I have a merino nightie from Green Rose (but have got expensive since Brexit) and from Dilling (size up as they are very fitted). Also recommend looking for ultrafine merino dresses and using them for nightwear (look for Icebreaker/Smartwool/Finnisterre)

Greyhare · 21/11/2021 18:54

Vest and pants under a 4.5 tog duvet, 100% cotton covers and sheets, in an unheated bedroom and feet and hands hanging out, and I'm still over heating and waking up with a flush.

actiongirl1978 · 21/11/2021 19:09

I sleep in knickers and an M&S vest top with a sleep bra underneath (only because when I look in the mirror my breasts are so droopy I appall myself)

If it's freezing I wear jammie bottoms when I first get into bed then take them off in the night.

tearinghairout · 21/11/2021 19:12

Only ever knickers (since I left home). I have cotton sheets and several blankets so I chuck one or two off in the night if I get hot.

BestIsWest · 21/11/2021 19:19

I don’t wear anything apart from some heat keeper socks and a heated wheat bag socks if it’s cold.
Wool duvets are great.

expatmigrant · 21/11/2021 19:42

Get on the HRT and then you won't have to worry about it
