Cashmere polo neck?

IsabelGowdie · 20/11/2021 08:21

So, I reckon a cold snap is coming so I’d like a new cashmere roll neck as I’ve managed to shrink my current one.

Can anyone help? I really liked the plain Boden ones from last year but this year they’ve added ruffles (why?!).

I don’t suit boxy ones, and I think the John Lewis ones look a bit frumpy/ baggy.

Does anyone have any brilliant idea? I can’t stretch to Brora. Many thanks!

Uniqlo?

I found some lovely N. peal cashmere on the Secret Sales site, but that was about 10 years ago - still going strong!

M&S? Although their clothes are so frumpy I rarely bother even looking. But a friend of mine has a very neat cashmere cardigan from there. Bland standard design but sometimes that’s just what one needs.

Inthesameboatatmo · 20/11/2021 08:31

I second uniqlo, failing that good old M&S ,yes most of the stuff has been awful lately but they do do very good cashmere.

KaycePollard · 20/11/2021 10:31

Uniqlo cashmere is quite thin, but their colours are lovely. M&S rather more boring colours.

I also love Uniqlo merino wool fine knit rib polo necked jumpers. Really soft and warm, and because their sidings run quite small, they fit very flatteringly. And cheap enough that you can buy several and they go in the washing machine.

Johnstons of Elgin is where I (rarely as it's pricey) buy cashmere. I can vouch for the quality.

bumpetybumpbump · 20/11/2021 11:05

Lovely cashmere in Cos at the moment, lots of polo necks, good shapes.

Stoic123 · 20/11/2021 13:41

2nd vote for Cos. Cashmere is good quality.

MathsFiend · 20/11/2021 16:24

H&M have a cashmere polo neck for £99. Can’t vouch for quality but looks nice.

Spodge · 20/11/2021 17:49

Definitely check out M&S. I don't suit polo necks so I don't know what they may have in that style, but I have just bought 2 Autograph cashmere tops for £99 and they are lovely quality.

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/11/2021 17:59

I have a few cashmere polo necks from M&S and the quality is very good for the price. I just vary the sizes I buy so it looks more fitted or more oversized rather than buying my actual size in M&S and ending up with their more 'classic' shape.

&Daughter does wonderful cashmere polo necks but eek the prices!!

I've also had some decent cashmere from Jigsaw in the past (always bought in the sale).

DGFB · 20/11/2021 20:21

I have this year’s M&S polo neck and it’s lovely quality

Whitney168 · 20/11/2021 20:31

I know this isn’t exactly a roll neck(!), but it’s a lovely jumper - really nice weight cashmere. Had one last year and have bought another this year, very cosy.

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 20/11/2021 20:35

Just bought this one from La Redoute. No idea on quality, but thought I’d take a punt for that price…

TuftyRusty · 20/11/2021 22:02

Ami Amalia does gorgeous knitwear: amiamalia.com/product/to-infinity-sweater-short-length-edition-black-noir-edition/

&Daughter too: www.and-daughter.com/products/fintra-lambswool-crop-high-neck-in-cliff-grey

Both have Black Friday offers on, although neither of those are cashmere (just realised after I put the links in you’re after cashmere…. Blush)

Otherwise I’d look at Outnet too as they do loads of knitwear.

TizerorFizz · 21/11/2021 00:51

I have a mulberry coloured M&S one with a single camel stripe down the sleeves. It’s absolutely brilliant and good quality.,it’s not frumpy! I have bought their cashmere for years. It’s a bargain!

BringMeTea · 21/11/2021 06:12

Saw Landsend had some and massively reduced at the moment.

KaycePollard · 21/11/2021 12:22

Inspired by this thread, I had a look at M&S cashmere. Quite thin in comparison to my N. Peal one, and - at my M&S branch at least - very limited colour range.

For the price (£89) I'd say the Uniqlo are better value, and I like their fit. But of course, fit is a personal thing.

Rosielil · 21/11/2021 17:51

This is a great thread. I sent Boden cashmere back a week ago as the quality was so poor and nearly cried yesterday when I discovered holes in both elbows of a Boden jumper which I got maybe 4 years ago and have worn so much. The difference in quality between then and now is marked.

Anyway, I like the jumper that @Whitney168 linked to and Cos look lovely quality (as much as you can tell online!) so am going to order both to try on.

TizerorFizz · 21/11/2021 21:33

N Peal is hardly the same price point as M&S!!! Not a fair comparison at all. M&S is stonking value. Autograph at M&S is better quality. Boden is good but more money. I like N Peal too but you need much deeper pockets.

The Landsend sale cardis look decent. Not much else!!

Bunny2021 · 21/11/2021 21:35

Woolovers. Their cashmere is the best. Far superior to my Uniqlo ones.

KaycePollard · 21/11/2021 21:53

I got my N Peal jumpers via Secret Sales. I paid around £60 apiece I think, although that was about 10 years ago. They’ve lasted that long!

TizerorFizz · 21/11/2021 22:10

I go to their shop at Bicester Village and they are not £60!!! You really are comparing a top brand with M&S. I have 10 year old M&S ones bought when DD was in 6th form. She’s now 29.

lunarlandscape · 21/11/2021 22:21

Avoid John Lewis. Their cashmere is very poor quality. M&S is surprisingly excellent.

Robin60 · 22/11/2021 00:13

I’ve bought several cashmere jumpers from Pure Collection and they’ve always been fabulous.

TizerorFizz · 22/11/2021 07:56

Oh yes! Forgot Pure. I thinkntgrufcstukes are quite good. I’ve bought from Denner in the past too. Their cashmere that’s cheaper isn’t so good but their higher ply knits are excellent.

Whitney168 · 22/11/2021 11:46

The one I linked is lovely quality, and as I say I had one last year that has been worn and washed a lot and is certainly standing up to it fine.

They must all be variable, I guess, depending on where they get the individual design?

Was surprised to hear someone above saying quality of Boden cashmere was dire - I have just returned one because I didn't like the style, but it was the cosiest loveliest cashmere I've come across for a long while.

This one - love it on the model (quelle surprise), looked like a bloody school jumper on me LOL.
