Help please - hair toner disaster!

Hi, feel an idiot for being so upset about this (it’s just HAIR after all), but 3 days ago I used a semi-permanent toner on my natural grey/silver hair - trying to remove yellow without the purple effect from purple shampoos, and the toner has destroyed my lovely healthy long hair!
I left it on 5 minutes (it said up to 30 minutes), but hair has gone brittle, stretchy, totally flat and straight, huge loss of body and volume (feels like half my hair is gone, though I haven’t noticed shedding), + slightly stinging scalp.
ALL the product info said no risk of damage, gentle conditioning colour blah blah. Total lie, my hair is destroyed.
Anyone else had this from a 5 minute toner? Any solutions? Is it a crew cut or shave my head moment!? ( I’m not young or pretty enough to carry either).
All/any reassurance/advice greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

Thanks @popcornlover13 I’m going to ask for clarifying shampoo.
Does anyone know if Olaplex would be a bad idea then, since what I’m looking for is to remove the toner residue?

Clarifying shampoos can be quite drying/damaging so I'd get advice from your hairdresser on that one. If your is damage then I wouldn't use a harsh shampoo.

Olaplex will (should, never really noticed a difference for me) just help to improve the condition so is a good idea regardless.

Good luck op, hair disasters can feel so stressful.

UPDATE - no big news really. Hairdresser said the condition was definitely NOT bleach/ammonia damage, but rather a coating left by the toner, so she washed with clarifying shampoo and used Olaplex 8 conditioner instead of Olaplex treatment (as my hair is very soft and shiny anyway - that’s not the problem, it’s the loss of volume, body, bounce, and - well - feels like the loss of hair!).
She couldn’t see sign of new breakage so we think the toner coating has just slicked all the volume out of my hair.
She trimmed it but not too drastic - about 2 inches.
It looks ok, but is still about 40% less volume than before.
Here’s a photo (it’s much more grey than it looks in the the photo).
You can’t see in the photo how it’s lost volume, but it has. If I use a hair clip it just slips out of my hair.
Anyway it could be worse, at least no crew cut! And hairdresser thinks fingers crossed it will wash out over next few weeks. It’s also left a muddy greyish purple colour under the top layer. Ho hum.
Thanks so much everyone for the reassurance and advice 🙏🏼❤️
It’s been a huge help.

Yes I think so too

Your hair looks lovely so not a total disaster. Glad your hair is recovering. One to chalk up to experience!

MrsCornelius · 22/11/2021 19:50

Thanks so much everyone. Hair is still weirdly thin and limp, I've worn it up every day since the toner, but I think it is salvageable! No crew cut at least. If it recovers properly I'll update with what worked to turn it around.

@MrsCornelius
You have enough hair there for a lovely ‘undo’ (and it’s easy) x

I've used another variant in the Schwartzkopf Igora range before - the spray in whitener on my naturally grey hair and its incredibly drying and incredibly ineffective. But it has never caused lasting damage - like others have said its a coating that washes off

MrsCornelius · 28/11/2021 17:00

It washed out! Five washes, and I’m back to (slightly shorter) normal.
Thanks for all the support everybody.
I’m never using toners again 😬
