What will ACTUALLY help my hair grow?

saltedcaramelanything · 17/11/2021 20:20

After years of too much bleach, heat styling, etc I've started noticing my hair is breaking quite a lot.

I'm taking biotin. But is there anything out there that will actually make a difference in helping my hair grow longer & fuller?

Not really. Regular tiny trims to help split ends
Good products. Regular deep conditioning etc
Stay away from heated tools, scalp massages, treat it gently
I think regaine is the only proven thing

Michael van Clarke

Olaplex treatments (not the shampoo and conditioner) and collagen supplements

Libertaire · 17/11/2021 20:30

Time.

Just leave it alone completely except for washing it using decent quality shampoo & conditioner every few days. No heat, no dye, no bleach, no straighteners, no extensions, nothing. Just let it grow. Then, after a couple of months have it cut as short as you dare, then ask her to cut it shorter still. Then just leave it alone to grow for another few months, then you should have a head of healthy hair to work with.

Eat a nutritionally dense high protein diet. Once I started my hair grew quickly and it’s healthier than ever. My hair is waist length now.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 20:50

Olaplex will improve the condition of what you have. Not sure anything makes your hair grow thicker though.

WhatHoMarjorie · 17/11/2021 20:51

Olaplex 3 specifically

IGotHam · 17/11/2021 20:51

Vitamin d. Good for hair and nails

BelleOfTheProvince · 17/11/2021 21:47

My hair grew quite long when I used mane and tail shampoo.
It also grows better when I don't use heat styling(obvious I know, so hardly a revelation)

allofthecheese · 17/11/2021 21:51

Only pregnancy helped mine... went back to normal after though :(

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 17/11/2021 21:53

I've just started a regime of Regaine, collagen powder and caffeine shampoo.
My hair is weak, falling out and thin.
I'm doing a 4 month experiment to see if the combination of these 3 things works!

Since taking fish oil tablets I feel like my hair is growing healthier and stronger

Welcometothejingles · 18/11/2021 05:08

Cut it as sort as you can so all the dead ends are out and the eat well and take supplements.

MrsJackWhicher · 18/11/2021 05:19

Watching with interest!
Neil a few month ago I have thick shiny long hair. Then I lost 13 kilos in weight over 2months (not illness, just pretty much stopped eating and drinking alcohol)
All good tillI noticed how much thinner my hair had got, specifically at the back-only explanation was the weight loss snd have since heard that is a thing. Now eating healthily with supplements and hoping will recover.

Maddy456 · 18/11/2021 07:12

Nourkin. I lost a lot of hair after a very stressful life event and this brought it back. It takes a couple of months to start noticing small hairs growing back.

saltedcaramelanything · 18/11/2021 07:29

Unfortunately my hair is already shoulder length, so the broken ends are about ear length - so the only way to cut it above the broken pieces would mean a pixi cut. And I'm not prepared to do that.

I use opalex too, but will look into collagen supplements.

I'd forgotten about caffeine shampoo...I wonder is that not harsh on hair? I want to make sure I'm not doing anything to dry it out more

There is a Lee Stafford product in a pot for hair growth which I swear actually works....I'm normally totally underwhelmed by beauty products and the claims they make but this did work for me, no idea how or why. Smells lovely and makes your hair feel nice too.

supercalifragilistic123 · 18/11/2021 07:42

Sea kelp tablets, you can them in Holland and Barrett. They made my hair grow really fast.

Aggy35 · 18/11/2021 08:06

I tlfeel that daily massage (gentle)has helped. It increases blood flow to the scalp hence helps

GoodnightGrandma · 18/11/2021 08:07

How old are you ?

People in Asia use a lot of massage on the scalp. This does stimulate growth. Coconut oil before washing should help.
Also try to eat more pulses like lentils.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 18/11/2021 09:44

Silica. Try a horse tail supplement.

Berkeys · 18/11/2021 09:48

So for me, what helped was going vegan honestly! My hair used to grow really slowly and suddenly when I gave up eggs and dairy it went super fast, shiny and thick. I was already vegetarian btw so diet didn’t change that much. I think I might have had dairy intolerance as gastro stuff went away as well. So look to your diet, deficiencies etc.
I can barely keep on top of my hair growing now Grin

I have the same hair. Plus mine literally will not grow in places, longer than two or three inches. I saw a picture of myself yesterday and cried as it looks so terrible.
