Hairdryers: Parlux vs Dyson

I need a new hairdryer and have the offer of a premium one as a gift so looking for a steer, please.

Firstly, do I need a pricey hairdryer? I’m white-European. My hair is long but very fine and poker-straight, it tends to be quite oily; my standard Remington dries it in about five minutes. It does lack volume though, and I would like some more swish like I get from a professional blow dry.

I wash and blow dry my hair 3-4 times a week.

If you have knowledge of Parlux and Dyson, which would you choose and why?

After reading a lot of reviews and speaking to my hairdresser I went with the Parlux Alyon over the Dyson. Mainly due to price. I have thick, medium length, wavy hair and it's easily cut my drying time in half. I really rate it.

I had a parlux and now I have a Dyson.

The Parlux is more powerful so dries hair super quick, but it is pretty heavy!

The Dyson is much easier to hold so your arm doesn’t get as tired, but dries my hair slightly slower.

They’re both great!
Sorry…. Doesn’t really help does it? Parlux are cheaper 🤷‍♀️

Hottbutterscotch · 17/11/2021 01:00

I’ve had both. The handle of the Dyson doesn’t lend itself to comfortably doing your own hair in my opinion. It’s just so bulky. That negates all else. Parlux are very efficient but have always broken bang on three years for me. Rather than replace it this time I bought the GHD and it’s incredible. Outdoes them both.

TicTacHoh · 17/11/2021 01:19

I’ve had a Parlux but agree with above, GHD is infinitely better

I have extremely thick hair and tried my friends Dyson. I rated it less than ny current hairdryer, which I bought from the Argos catalogue on the basis that it had the highest wattage of hairdryers that I could find. It dries my hair faster and is more powerful and hotter. Someone with thinner hair might find it too hot though, which the Dyson wasn't.

Can't comment on the Parlux.

If you want swish have you tried a round vented brush while blowdrying?

Shuttheblinds · 17/11/2021 02:19

I have a Parlux and also got a Dyson earlier this year hoping I would love it. I sent it back. Made my hair frizzy and feel dry. Now I stick with the Parlux and will never have any other hairdryer. My Parlux replaced my ghd hairdryer when it burnt out after four years. It was good but I prefer the Parlux.

Parlux 365 Light and buy a melody silencer too as it keeps it quieter. Parlux ones are the best. I always think about the hairdresser who said she farted while blow drying with a Dyson and it sucked it up straight into the clients face. So unprofessional!

Sonex · 17/11/2021 03:14

I recently bought the GHD one, it's brilliant. Made my hair much softer and less frizzy.

I don't think dyson is brilliant for fine hair. Parlux on the other hand is brilliant

I use a vented flat brush but turn my head upside down- my hair is too long for a round brush and I’ve had them get badly tangled before so now avoid.

Interesting mix of opinions here, and it now looks like I need to factor a GHD into the mix- I didn’t even know they did dryers!

I have a parlux alyon, and it lives up to the hype. Light, quiet, dries quickly, and leaves my hair soft and shiny. It is worth spending the extra imo, especially if you have long, thick hair that needs a lot of drying.

ReviewingTheSituation · 17/11/2021 12:40

I have a Dyson but I have very short hair, so my needs are different. I find it much easier to angle and hold than the more traditional shape dryers, and it dries my hair so quickly (even though it's short, it's thick, and there's a lot of it, so it can take much longer than you'd think). I have to wash/dry it every day, so the speed matters to me. I love it!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/11/2021 14:01

Parlux Alyon.

I agree about the Dyson, the buttons are in the wrong place Confused
