Straight hair to curly hair.. HOW???

Missatkins · 13/11/2021 20:37

My hair is thick, long and straight, and I just CANNOT get curls to hold. I've even bought a Dyson Airwrap and ££££ worth of recommended products, but still the curls are literally dropping by the time I leave the house. Can anyone help or should I just accept my straight hair??

This is the only thing that has ever made my long, thick, straight hair hold a curl:

Deal: BaByliss Ceramic Curling Wand Pro www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BFQ3RSK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_dl_94RZMK8KZ454TS9XWAWZ?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It's amazing, the curls last for DAYS.

My hairdresser swears by ditching conditioner completely, says it makes hair too soft to hold a style - recommends using hair oil instead. I tend to still use it so can't confirm, but could try that?

Have you tried using straightening irons?

Only thing that works on my long straight hair is Heated rollers, wash hair day before without conditioner. Spray each segment liberally with hairspray then put in roller. Repeat. Spray whole head with hairspray. Leave until cold, ideally for 2hrs. Take out rollers. Spray again with hairspray, shake out/loosen with fingers. Looks good for a night out, but your hair will feel like shit and not somthing I could be bothered to do regularly 🤣

Yes, this makes sense. I could just maybe condition the very ends as they're quite dry. I'll give it a go!

I've tried using straightening irons and I was rubbish at it. 🙄

Have you tried old fashioned bendy stick things that you leave in overnight? Or pin curling overnight?

themerrywifeofwindsor · 15/11/2021 13:14

@Missatkins excellent!! I'm so glad it worked for you Smile

If you haven't tried the tiktok thing where you stick a dressing gown belt on your head and wrap the hair around it also works amazingly well!

I found that halving the amount of hair I was curling helped loads. Takes forever since it’s now double the work but I don’t do anything else differently, still condition etc.

I use a pair of GHDs and “twist” them twice rather than the once most tutorials show.
