Mini dresses - what to wear over the top?

Maybe I need to tough it out but… what would you layer over a strappy mini dress for a party or night out in winter?

Longline blazer? Leather jacket? Something else?

I will want to wear a cosy cardigan but will try to restrain myself.

Faux fur coat or jacket.
Long wool coat.

I'm not up for being cold outside

Would you layer the midi over a top or body 90s style?
Cosy cardigan could work but it has to be slouchy oversized super soft falling off the shoulder type.
Yes to blazer, but length is tricky.
Yes to long coat.
I will always say no to faux fur as it tends to be plastic and it still glamorises fur
Or… something like this?www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/quilted-velvet-kimono?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=031&searchparams=q%3Dkimono%2520jacket%26sayt%3Dtrue&type=REGULAR&quantity=1

Do you mean to wear actually inside the venue, if so, nothing.

If it's for indoors, I wear fitted vintage velvet jackets from eBay

I know what you're saying about faux fur chocolate . I'd only ever go for vintage and something that looked very fake IYSWIM, but even then I'm swithering on whether I actually want one or not.

Longline blazer or faux fur/Borg coat or jacket.

duvets · 13/11/2021 11:39

Thank you all :)

Long Borg type or fluffy coat could be a good one.

Researching blazer but yes getting one just the right length is tricky as I reckon the two hemlines need to coincide?

I've been deliberating whether can wear something inside but then fear I'm veering dangerously into bolero territory. (But also don't want to be grumpy because cold or self conscious.)

Would consider a form fitting layer underneath the dress and it could work with a couple of the dresses I have my eye on as they have a straight neckline. (As long as I keep bare legs and non-frumpy shoes, right?)

Love the velvet!

A strappy mini dress with bare legs in the winter ShockShock

I have several long coats for these occasions. I wouldn’t wear it inside though.

I can’t see the point of wearing a mini dress with a cardigan over the top. If you do, perhaps you could add fluffy slippers to complete the look.

Don't wear anything underneath it will spoil it. Better to buy a long sleeve mini dress. If you're planning to take it off a waist length leather jacket. If you want the option of keeping it on then a long line blazer or blazer dress over the top. The outside hem needs to be the longest.

A strappy mini dress with bare legs in the winter

Most venues have heating.

duvets · 13/11/2021 12:03

I should go for long sleeved really. But the strappy ones are so pretty. I will have a strong urge to wear my slippers. Those fluffy UGG sliders perhaps?! ;)
