How popular is schoffel?

Is it just a horsey/agric thing or are all the kids wearing it? And by kids I mean the late teens onwards. I'm old.

Very popular here at all ages but we are both rural and farming/equine community. Can’t see it having huge traction in Brighton clubs though, so imagine it’s demographic dependent!

Mostly equine.
The stuff is rather square and not really intended to flatter, more of a practicality - and for that you may very well find less expensive goods that fulfil the same function. Regarding rurality, there are also many in the farming/horsey world that would think it bonkers to spend that amount.
Im casting no aspersions but i've tended to witness it more often in social climbing, 'nouveaux' circles or amongst those who wish to exhibit wealth - whether they possess it or not.

I have some schoffel breeks. It's country wear

It’s standard farmer attire here, the cattle market is wall to wall with it. All well worn and grubby though!
pregnantorkebab · 12/11/2021 20:23

I've never heard of it. I'm 30, from London originally, have lived in the USA and Cambridge and now live in a suburb in the Midlands - to give context!

liveforsummer · 13/11/2021 07:39

It's definitely equine/agri. Dc ride but we live in a city and you see no schoffel in the latter but it's a bit of a uniform to wear the waistcoat along with a pair of le chameau wellies for the equine/agri crew. There's also cheaper equine brands that do similar styles

Mumdiva99 · 13/11/2021 07:41

I'm old with teenage kids. Never heard of it. I live in a large town.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 13/11/2021 09:17

If by "what the kids are wearing" you mean the ones at Young Farmers then yes, the kids are wearing it. Outside of hunting shooting fishing farming and maybe equestrian type circles it isn't cool. Wear with Le Chameau wellies or Dubarry boots and a tweed ear warmer.

Mercurial123 · 13/11/2021 09:25

Never heard of it.

Scrowy · 13/11/2021 09:32

I've got a Schoffel jacket that I wear with my le chams and a brown felt hat. It's my going 'out out' outfit.

But I do live on a farm and I only go 'out out' to things in fields.

If you know a teen/ young adult who moves in young farmer circles they will probably love something schoffel

Muddybanks · 13/11/2021 09:34

I'm in a horsey community and I love it! Would love someone bought me a Schofdel item for Christmas as they are warm and very good quality. I can't afford those prices though!

wheresmyshoe · 13/11/2021 09:41

I love mine, they're at least 15 years old and only look better for being worn in. Warm, cosy, wash well and practical. Decent kit.

Bagelsandbrie · 13/11/2021 09:43

Never heard of it and I’m in proper rural Norfolk…

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 13/11/2021 11:07

I have one of the gilets, brilliantly warm, great dog walking kit too.

VeganVampire · 13/11/2021 16:10

I'm thinking of getting DS a gilet for christmas although he'll then have to start wearing a shirt. Is there different thicknesses? I noticed quite a few at the local ag show in the summer and it was a VERY hot day. It seems to be the uniform for the Young Farmers and the horsey girls that try to attract them!

Tangletester · 13/11/2021 16:37

We love it here. But we’re rural and have horses.

AndyMurraysCat · 13/11/2021 16:42

I used to have a Schoffel ski jacket

OrlandointheWilderness · 13/11/2021 16:43

Schoffel gilet is the one thing I wear constantly. Incredibly warm.

SparklyGlasses · 13/11/2021 16:47

Rural here and I have an (eye wateringly expensive!) padded coat. It's slim sitting so relatively flattering compared to similar from other brands and it seems to be lasting well 🤞. I wouldn't consider it "fashionable" exactly though!

FuzzyPuffling · 13/11/2021 16:50

I have never heard of Schoffel (rural dweller) but I do have a pair of Le Chams, so I got v excited. Off to Google....

MintJulia · 13/11/2021 16:52

Very popular but we're rural. It's brilliant for cold days clay shooting or fishing.

So popular in fact, someone pinched my 15yo Schoffel jacket off the gate where I'd left it when I get too hot Sad
