Questions about a coat

I'm searching for a special occasions coat
Ideally I'll wear it for twenty years or so, so it should have a timeless style
I'll only wear it a few times a year
And it should suit special occasions, including funerals
What do you think?

What’s the fabric? I’d expect it to be wool, with a decent lining too.

Hopefully you'll be able to read this I don't know how to link it

I really like it but unfirtunately I don't think you'll get 20 years out of it because it'll date.

HundredMilesAnHour · 11/11/2021 00:17

I think it'll date quite badly. And it looks quite scruffy. I'd go for something more classic, better cut and a wool/cashmere blend.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 11/11/2021 00:19

It’ll date and I’m not sure I’d consider it appropriate for a funeral.

Hairyfriend · 11/11/2021 00:20

Sorry, but IMO its far from timeless and would date very quickly! Its hard to see in the pic, but the edges look rough and unfinished.

At over £500, its not the timeless style I think of. Any others you like?

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 11/11/2021 00:22

I like it, though. I’d happily wear it and I wouldn’t worry about it dating because I don’t particularly care about being trendy.

But if you’re looking for timeless I don’t think that’s it.

Anordinarymum · 11/11/2021 00:32

It's a coat and it is nice. It is a bit too pricey for me. Max I have ever paid for a coat is around £175. I don't think it is timeless but if you want it and can afford it then go for it

TuftyRusty · 11/11/2021 08:50

I’d go for a simpler style if you want to wear it for years.

Have you seen Shop the Curated - they do a lot of classic styles and in a similar price range.

Nice coat but it will start to look dated. I'd go for a simpler style like max mara. That will last you a while.

ExConstance · 11/11/2021 09:12

If I was buying a coat as a "long term investment" I'd want one that was longer than this one to be sure it looked right with all the different skirt lengths i's want to wear over time. I have a very roomy almost ankle length black and grey+ tweed coat I got from Toast about 5 years ago, i think that will last at least another 5 as it just goes with everything.

KirstenBlest · 11/11/2021 09:18

Don't like it

WindowsSmindows · 11/11/2021 21:36

Thanks everyone, I definitely want to be able to wear it for years, so I'll spend some time looking at shop the curated and maxmara.
I appreciate the feedback and I'll be back here in a couple of weeks if I am considering options.
