Toast - why almost no photos on models?

I’m about to take the plunge and place my first order with Toast. I’ve dithered for ages as the clothes are quite a bit more expensive than I would usually buy but there are a few things I like the look of so decided to go for it.

However - why on earth do they have so few photos of the clothes being modelled by actual women? It’s so hard to work out whether the clothes will suit me or not when all I have to go on is one photo of the item laid flat.

For example - the Soft Cotton Circular Top. There are several reviews saying that it’s no good for bigger busts, which means it won’t suit me. But I’m tall and broad-shouldered so maybe I can carry it off - but how can I tell if I can’t see the thing on an actual human being?? It’s ridiculous that a company which does almost all of its business online doesn’t provide decent photos of the clothes (especially when the clothes are so expensive).

If anyone has this top and wouldn’t mind sharing a photo of themselves in it I’d be very grateful! Ditto the Soft Cotton Jersey Dress.

I agree, it's ridiculous especially given the price. The people on the Toast thread might be able to help you out with photos or reviews.

I ordered that top - I think I hoped it would be more boat neck from the pic. It was the most unflattering thing I've ever ordered from Toast. I'm short and S/M 10/12 in Toast & a 14 everywhere else. It came really high up on my (short, fat) neck. I ordered a M which may have been a size too large but I can't see it working on anyone without a swan neck unless they are very tall. I love the Round Collar T though so have forgiven Toast.

It’s absurd. And when they do have a photo it’s very dark with some weird pose. And just one photo lest you see too much.

PearlAsylum · 11/11/2021 06:29

I feel you!

I ummed and ahhed about the soft cotton jersey dress. It's a lot of money for potential hassle. I'm overweight and tall-ish but not overly so (5'7") and I wasn't sure about fit or length.

As it happens, I used the fitting tool using my size in Hobbs dresses and that was accurate. The length was to about my knee, which is my preferred length, so it worked out OK. I'd have bought it weeks ago if I could have seen it on a) any model and b) even better, a plus-size model.

It is a nice, comfy dress and I would recommend it.

That circularv top won't suit you.

It's because they have made a batch of clothes that are unlikely to suit anyone

Yes, it's not a ringing endorsement that they feel the clothes look best nowhere near the human form.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/11/2021 09:31

Grin thanks @KirstenBlest that made me laugh. Thanks @Laceoff too, it does sound as if that top isn’t going to work. Gah. So annoying.

It’s good to hear that the dress worked for you @PearlAsylum. Maybe I’ll take a chance and order it. Might as well order the top as well I suppose to settle the question once and for all …

Toast don't use models much. You will get a better idea looking at their styling videos on Instagram. Toast Notting hill or toast Hampstead do them

Sooverthemill · 11/11/2021 10:04

Also there is a long running toast thread on their board where people might have the same item you are looking at. People post photos

KirstenBlest · 11/11/2021 10:11

It's been a while since I've seen anything I like on their site. I already have Dora boots (or the very similar Dealer boots). Monkey boots and Jade boots.

The accessories are nice and there's a man's donegal jumper I would like

Floisme · 11/11/2021 10:29

As I remember, they stopped using models in the first lockdown although that doesn't explain why they haven't gone back to them. I agree it's annoying, especially given their prices, although the models always had such a different physique from me that it wasn't entirely helpful anyway.

Laska2Meryls · 11/11/2021 10:37

I ordered the circular top, sent straight back, neck was really high and it was weirdly sticky out at the bottom. Also a bit short for the style I thought..
I have 36e bust and buy regularly from Toast but tbh this 2as one of the worst things that I had ever tried from them.
The lack of models is annoying but I think it was mostly due to covid they seem to be are gradually getting back into using them now

Laska2Meryls · 11/11/2021 10:39

Yes do come over to the Toast thread.. we are all friendly !! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4388083-Toastie-in-our-winter-woolies-Toast-10

JuneFromBethesda · 12/11/2021 20:29

Thank you everybody, I think you have effectively talked me out of placing an order 😂 It was the circular top I kept coming back to but it really does sound hopeless so I’ll give it a miss.

I’ll meander over to the Toast thread next time I start to think about ordering again Grin
