Hi everyone, as a family we are trying to do some better for the environment choices. We certainly are no where near great atm.

Anyway some successes have been been replacing plastic diet pop bottles and cans with a soda stream, switching from laundry liquid to paper thingies (technical term!) Etc.

Anyway area I'm trying next are shampoo bars to reduce single use plastic. However the two I tried barely lathered up even with lots of effort and I ended up wasting so much water and time to get enough to clean hair. And no not going to stand there shivering turning it on and off in short bursts! So does anyone have any good lathering shampoo bars they could recommend? Thank you in advance 💞

If you switch to a proper soap bar for your hair, there will be a transition period where it seems like it's not working for your hair, doesn't lather well and feels like it's leaving a residue in your hair.

However, if you persist (and you can use a vinegar or lemon rinse after shampooing to help) you will get to a stage where your soap bar lathers spectacularly and you feel like you're getting the best hair wash of your life. You can get bars such as the Lush ones, which are not soap and are basically SLS in a solid form, where you may not have a transition period; I don't know because I haven't tried them.

I like the proper soap bars because they have really simple ingredients (no SLS, parfum etc), which has helped massively with the contact dermatitis I get on my hands. I go for ones that are palm-oil free too, such as Friendly Soap, and my current favourite, Conchus. Conchus also do hair rinse sprays, which I've stopped using as I just don't need it any more.

I now only wash my hair once or twice a week with the bar, I don't bother with any conditioner (shortish hair) and just use a bit of dry shampoo in between. My routine is to brush my hair first, wet it, put a little bit of soap lather on, quick rinse, and then I lather up properly before a thorough rinse. I think the first mini wash kind of prepares the hair for a full lather somehow! Anyway, sorry for the essay Smile

I really like the Vegan Moroccan Shampoo Bar by Procoal (Egg shape). I find it lathers up well and cleared up my flaky scalp. Bought it on Amazon.

Tip from my MiL's hairdresser if your hair feels greasy or sticky you need to was twice, once to lift the dirt and the second to wash it away. That's why so many shampoo say rinse and repeat
