What to wear with a long wool skirt

I'm a sucker for a long wool skirt and boots, I wear this combo to work a lot, but with a smart ish black jumper. I'd like to wear it outside of work but never really know what to wear on top.
I'm 5'3", so need a shortish top otherwise I just look swamped

what about neat fitted cashmere, grey or black merino polo neck, nice contracting jewellery/pendant.
I sometimes wear a fitted merino base layer as a top with a will skirt, but I like things simple.
I would avoid polyester because the texture sometimes seems odd next to wool, so a frilly blouse might be a bit 'fussy'.

Over all I'd say it depends largely upon the shape of the skirt - is it bias cut, faltered, a-line, maxi, conservative or bohemian?

A silk cami with a decent, slouchy cashmere cardi if the skirt if fitted, perhaps a more fitted cardi if the skirt is more relaxed.
