Could you dye your fingernails with hair dye? Would that be utter madness?

I am all for low maintenance beauty options - I laser my legs and dye my eyelashes to lessen daily beauty tasks.

Just idly pondering whether it would work to dye ones fingernails with hair dye? Can't find anything on goggle other than one video showing someone using black henna but I don't want black or brown nails. Could you do it with say, red permanent hair dye? Would that be utter madness? In Korea they dye their nails red using paste made from flowers.

Why though? They'll grow out just as quickly as with polish so you'd have to re-dye just as often.

I think they might look stained rather than dyed.
Did you know that you can apply nail polish messily to your nails then if you have a bath or do a load of washing up you can just pick the extra off?

Think how often you put your fingers to your eyes .
Hairdye can be a huge irritant . even the residue

If people have irritated eyes its often due to nail polish and the frequency of touching the eyes .

I have no idea if it’s possible, but I’d imagine they’d look stained as a pp said, and you wouldn’t be able to get the nice polished shine without top coat.

I don't think that would work well at all. Nail polish coats the nail, creating a nice shiny, coloured surface whuch stays on the nail. Hair dye obviously washes off, so would surely just leave an odd stained look (if it worked at all).

You could just buff them up for quick super shiny nails. Looks like a clear polish.

It would just look like you've had your hands in a bowl with tea bags in for ages.

Polish needs redoing because it’s chipped rather than grown out?

But I think it will look rubbish I’m afraid. All dull and not vibrant enough.

@nanbread it's only £22 for me in my area, NE, takes less than an hour 🙈
And they last a month!

I see several patients with henna dyed nails and I have to say , if it's done sloppily , it looks like a nasty accident has occured in the bathroom < not envy

I think you’ve been unlucky @nanbread - where I get mine done, it lasts really well and the removal is fine. The reason so many people get gels is because they’re durable and look good for a long time.

But anyway back to the OP, how about something like Dior Nail Envy - it looks polished and lasts well but doesn’t require too much maintenance IME.

Of course I mean Nail Glow! Not Nail Envy…
