Knee high boots - yes or no…

I was looking at some old photos of myself from 10 years ago and I was wearing flat knee high boots and looking pretty good! I am suddenly really wanting some but I wonder if I can make them work. I used to wear them with dresses or skinny jeans tucked in - I am pretty petite so that look suits me but I wonder if it will look too out of date.

Or maybe it doesn’t really matter as long as I feel good?

I think they are amazing flat. The boots of now are really chunky.

Essentially wear them if you like them! I'm also coveting some

AliceAldridge · 06/11/2021 20:53

I want some too. I am not fashionable mind!

DGFB · 06/11/2021 20:53

I think knee high boots with jeans tucked in are really old fashioned now. They look fine under midi dresses and that’s it

Floisme · 06/11/2021 20:55

I don't wear dresses or skirts very often but, when I do, it's with knee boots. I went back to them a few of years ago because I was bored with ankle boots. I hear fashion is finally catching up with me Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/11/2021 20:57

I think flat ones look good with mini skirts and dresses. I only wear them over jeans for walking, going to the shops etc. I've got some fantastic heeled ones - need to wear them more.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/11/2021 21:00

Flat knee high boots are fine. Definitely not with jeans tucked in though.

Hmm - that’s what I am worried about. But I spent last winter wearing slouchy cords with chunky ankle boots and a big parka - my lockdown look - and I am craving something different….

Go different with dresses and skirts then! Skinny jeans in slim boots does look dated, although skinny jeans with cowboy boots could work. Or slim leg flat knee highs (sort of riding boot style) with skirts and dresses (of all lengths). Or wider leg jeans with boots underneath.

Perfect28 · 06/11/2021 21:39

I don't get these posts. Mostly I don't understand why they aren't 99% of posters saying 'wear whatever you want and makes you feel good'.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/11/2021 21:44

well that would make for a dull s&b board

Divebar2021 · 06/11/2021 22:49

Presumably the OP doesn’t want to look dated. I think skinny jeans tucked in looks dated personally. I’ve just ordered some red knee boots from Anthropology having not worn knee boots for probably 8/10 years at least… I’ve got some long or midi skirts / dresses and a vintage kilt I’m going to wear them with if I can get them on. I noticed Arket were styling them with loose trousers tucked in ( quite Cossack looking ) and knee skirts. If that’s the way the trend is going I shall definitely be ignoring that.

londonmummy1966 · 06/11/2021 22:53

I wouldn't wear with skinny jeans at the moment but I wear with dresses of all lengths - I have chunky calves so like the disguise. I also wear them with wide leg crops

beguilingeyes · 06/11/2021 22:56

They look f'ing great though...so if you've got the legs for it...go for it.

Notcontent · 07/11/2021 00:19

Thanks all. Might see if I can find the perfect pair and wear with dresses!

I did see some photos online with models and celebrities wearing loose trousers tucked into them and indeed it is a ridiculous look! I would definitely look like I was auditioning for a role in a pantomime!

I’m very petite too OP and wear knee high boots 👢 any way that suits me !
Over skinny jeans , with dresses .. whatever looks good on me .
I have a huge collection of flat and heeled ankle and knee high boots and just wear what I like the look of !

I understand others may say that I look dated .. so what 🤷‍♀️
At my size … many of the latest trends look ridiculous on me !

@Divebar2021. you red boots sound lovely… I couldn’t see them on the Anthropology website …
That’s probably a good thing or I would have bought them 🙄

Hope you like them when they arrive

BangingOn · 07/11/2021 09:27

If you like them then wear them!

If you’re worried about looking dated, then I think they look better with skirts and dresses than jeans, especially when the boots finish above the skirt hem (never a gap in between).

Olivia Palermo does this look really well and always looks classic and elegant rather than dated.

Divebar2021 · 07/11/2021 10:06

@babbi

I think the red boots may have sold out which says a lot. This is what happened to me with John Lewis about 3 years ago because I wasn’t fast enough. I think this type of boot is a classic and I think a flat riding boot is a classic. I’m not necessarily a classic dresser a lot of the time - however you choose to wear them you’re likely to hang onto them a lot longer than the last pair I bought which were uber fashionable ( which I have some regret about ). If you feel good you have a radiance that is very attractive so if I’m banging on about skinny jeans or whatever feel free to tell me to STFU.

On this blog - you will be given the go ahead (if that’s what you need) for black knee highs / black leggings / black blazer (combo no 4) …. I think it look great and the all one colour on the legs more elegant. Think the flat boots are a chunky sole.

MarshaBradyo · 07/11/2021 10:57

I’m wearing some riding type ones still with jeans
I like it a lot
I don’t really have skinnies anymore

babbi · 07/11/2021 12:26

@Divebar2021 they are absolutely gorgeous…
Thanks for sharing the photo ..
I have boot envy 😀😀

I hope you have many happy outings wearing them !!

LaBellina · 07/11/2021 12:28

I think they look lovely with a midi turtleneck dress.

Pheasantlysurprised · 07/11/2021 13:11

I don't think they ever date, just how they are worn, styles, etc.
They are a perennial for those who like longer skirts, and often beneath cropped trousers in winter.
I don't like them with shorter skirts though, but never did.
I'd like some black lace-up suede ones with the quality and durability of a Dubarry boot. I would wear with long skirts as a swish around town......but cant find any.
However, I don't need them, so I will maybe get some in a year or two.

Sooverthemill · 07/11/2021 13:17

Yes knee high boots are everywhere at the moment. You can wear trousers/ jeans tucked in but get proportions right ( look on Pinterest or Instagram). Under skirts/ dresses too or with short skirts ( minis are making a comeback ) or even winter shorts

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/11/2021 13:36

I wore a gorgeous pair this week (flat, dark brown almost riding boot style) with black Jeggings, black top and black blazer. I got several compliments and loved the chic, slim, unfussy silhouette it gave me.

V surprised it would in fact be considered dated Confused

That sounds lovely and is not “dated” which navy skinny’s and knee high brown boots might be (as considered by some?) - I think the all one same colour on boots and jeans/trousers is much more flattering / striking than less flattering blue jeans / brown boots which cut your legs in half?
