Honestly I think you would struggle on that budget.

Unless you bought second-hand.

Maybe look out for craghoppers in the sale?

xmasdealhunter · 03/11/2021 18:18

This one is great (I use it for dog walking but it's nice and warm + waterproof), currently £60 but there's a 15% off discount if you click the banner at the top when you send £30 or more

You could look out for money off at UNIQLO, the block tech coats are quite good, but for the warmth you'll need to add a layer underneath

ChuckMater · 03/11/2021 18:41

Ok so maybe the budget is where I'm going wrong. Buy cheap buy twice and all that. Is £100 a better budget? Recommendations please and I'll start hunting on any of the websites you helpful bunch recommend

Vinted! I just bought a lovely second hand autumn coat on there for £25.

DerTrotzkopf · 03/11/2021 19:50

Seasalt has a sale on at the moment. It's brought some of their coats down to around £100. Appreciate they aren't the height of fashion but definitely warm and waterproof.

CallieOpie · 03/11/2021 19:54

Would this be the right sort of thing?

I’d go to a few charity shops.
Even if you don’t find the perfect one you’ll get an idea of what colour, style, shape suits you and/ or pick up a bargain or something ‘good enough’ and waterproof.

Etinoxaurus · 03/11/2021 20:03

Over budget at £79 but reviews are good

sazzt · 03/11/2021 20:15

Trespass dlx range. I have the Bettany it's great, toasty warm and dry. But it's £140 so over budget (though looks like there is a 10% discount code at the moment). There are other coats within budget though. I also have a thinner waterproof from here. Love them both. Never going back to regular high street winter coats now I have discovered proper waterproofing!!

callie yes thats the sort of thing I'm looking for, however its not in my size 😂 ill look through their website though as I always forget mountain warehouse exists.

Absolutely fully support second hand coats its just finding one, keep checking the charity shops but to no avail currently and I need one sooner rather than later preferably but will paddle on

Didrikson are the bomb. They are expensive, but mine lasted me about 8 years - October through April daily wear, I only gave it up as a worn out thing last year. I got mine at the time for around £120. I do appreciate it's been a while since I bought, so no idea where the prices stand these days, but as a brand, they are properly waterproof and stand the test of time. I bought mine off the back of a 'school run coat' thread :)

ChuckMater · 03/11/2021 20:18

Thank you etino ill pop to m&s and try it on i think as I think it might be a bit long and drown me sadly

I second Vinted - loads of coats on there! I just had a super dry jacket for £12 and it’s lovely and warm, I’m really pleased with it. Definitely worth a look on the app.

CallieOpie · 03/11/2021 20:37

@ChuckMater if you like the khaki they have a full size range for that colour.
Have fun shopping- I hope you find something you love!

Etinoxaurus · 03/11/2021 20:43

Or TKMaxx?

nanbread · 03/11/2021 21:22

OP another thought: I have a Uniqlo ultra light down coat, which I wear under a lightweight waterproof. I think some other companies now do these thin down coats as well.

This means I can wear the waterproof all year round, but am toasty warm with the down jacket.

And I can also wear the down jacket separately if it's not wet.

Something to consider.

SwanShaped · 03/11/2021 21:24

Check out Regatta waterproof and warm coats. I’ve got a parka that is waterproof. Was about £70 in a sale.

I love them, but their prices have gone crazy lately. My mum bought a replacement for hers this weekend, and it was £270!
icedcoffees · 03/11/2021 21:28

Regatta are good.

Don't go for Trespass as their stuff is really not waterproof.

LightOfAThousandStars · 03/11/2021 21:31

Second the Regatta, they have great waterproof parkas

DotBall · 03/11/2021 21:32

I have a Regatta shorter coat and a Craghoppers longer coat that are both toasty warm and completely waterproof. The Craghoppers is my go-to on cold, wet winter days for horse riding.

ChuckMater · 03/11/2021 21:58

I knew I'd get some great suggestions on here. Thank you! I'll get browsing and hopefully find the perfect coat. To be honest if the coat is good quality and last years then it'll be worth spending the extra as its going to be worn atleast twice a day autumn & winter in term time alone. No more babies for me so I hopefully won't outgrow it either!

ChuckMater · 03/11/2021 22:23

I think I've decided it'll be a regatta coat that I'll probably order tomorrow once I've had another look and might even treat myself to some of the ankle wellies too to save me from ruining all my trainers and boots in the rain. I feel they'll be more subtle than my regular normal length wellies which seem excessive when I'm not puddle jumping 😂
