Can anyone recommend proper denim jeans that don’t cost a fortune?

I want to get proper thick denim jeans as I’m fed up of the life span of cheaper jeans.

But I only really know Levi as a make of real denim jeans and they are so expensive. Do real denim jeans exist for less than £50?

I love next relaxed skinnies. 100% cotton, I think and less than £50

Yes. Charity shops where I live often have proper branded denim jeans for about £3. Not all will be 100% cotton but if you know your denim, you'll know what to avoid.

Look at Gap, H&M and the classic jeans brands for 100% cotton

Mint Velvet jeans seem to be thick denim and good quality - I can usually buy them for under £50 in the sales.

I always loved Next jeans and they've lasted me for years until recently. The pair I bought last autumn ripped right down the back seam while I was wearing them Blush)

Thanks for the recommendations. I always keep an eye out in the charity shops but never have much luck and live out of town so it can be hard to find the time to go. I’ve had a pair of next jeans that went baggy in the crotch area quite quickly.

So is it simply a case if looking for 100% cotton?

I live somewhere where the charity shops are cheap and cheerful. You need to rummage but I've had some real finds. There were some CK ones that looked 100% cotton in one yesterday. There are a lot of jeggings and similar fabric jeans, but the mom jeans are starting to appear. I usually go for 1% or 2% lycra and I always wear a belt.

CruelAndUnusualParenting · 03/11/2021 10:29

It's more than just 100% cotton. I found Cotton Traders jeans fell apart very quickly. I tend to buy Wranglers from jeanstore.com. There are usually some reduced to below £50, but whether they would suit you, only you can decide.

Gap, and also like Uniqlo

mewkins · 03/11/2021 10:44

Gap ones do last well and yes uniqlo.

mewkins · 03/11/2021 10:44

Have you checked amazon Levi's store? They are about 30pc cheaper than the Levis store.

ILoveShula · 03/11/2021 10:52

Diesel jeans and 7 for all mankind are long lasting, but you might get great ones in Asda or somewhere. I usually wear dark indigo ones.

It depends how much you wear them and what for. I don't wash mine unless they need it but I don't wear them all day every day.

The Levi's ones vary in thickness and stretchiness, so be careful, and they have the short front pockets, which pees me off.

nanbread · 03/11/2021 11:08

I like Monki jeans. Organic cotton, no stretch in lots of their styles.

Echobelly · 03/11/2021 11:09

Uniqlo are good and inexpensive - would agree with trying charity shops, there's so many jeans in them that you may turn up a good pair in your size if you look in a few.

VanGoghsDog · 03/11/2021 11:26

Maybe try ebay, I gut some 501's which are heavy denim.

You probably need to work out a brand you like first.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 03/11/2021 11:36

A lot of new Levis have polyester. Check the composition.

Mango have a pair of 99% cotton.

Do you want 100% cotton? They shrink and are stiff after washing. You have to lie on the floor to do them up. But after a little wear they give and fit amazingly until the next wash.

Pure cotton are hard to find. Interested in links.

My holy grail is 1 or 2% elastane. I was thinking of putting patches in between the thighs as this is where they wear out quickest.

BusterGonad · 03/11/2021 11:47

I have 4 pairs of Mango jeans, they are a mix but high cotton content 98 to 99% cotton. Mine are the Noa jeans but I think most of them are high cotton. Out of the 4 pairs I own 2 are really fantastic quality. They are the dark indigo shade and the washed out black, grey pair. The black pair are thinner but still good and the denim blue pair are very thin. The indigo ones are my favourite jeans ever.

Sooverthemill · 03/11/2021 12:19

If you know your Levi size buy from eBay. I have several pairs from eBay that cost less than £30. I don't mind preloved stuff. Also la redoute always has discounts. Arket, cos, other stories also do good Enid but around £59

Sooverthemill · 03/11/2021 12:20

Denim not Enid, obv

I love Next relaxed skinny jeans too, but sadly I don't think they do them anymore.
