Jewellery for an 18 year old

Dd1 is soon to turn 18 and I'd like to buy her a piece of jewellery to hopefully treasure forever.

When I was younger, I'm sure that Tiffany was all the rage, and I'd be happy to buy her something from them however is it still fashionable or is it seen as a bit 'mumsy' these days (I'm sorry I know it's a horrible term but I'm trying to think through the eyes of an 18 year old 😬).

Is there a cool brand these days that is also excellent quality? I'm thinking in the region of £250-300 for a sterling silver necklace.

Seen nice jewellery on wolf and badger

Finding a cool brand and treasure forever is pretty difficult.

Dinny Hall is really good quality. Wright & Teague is also excellent quality.

I would still go for Tiffany, it depends on her style and taste though. If she's classic modern, then perfect for her. Maybe you could have a browse around to see the jewels in person together and make a day out of it? I'm waiting for mine to turn 21 to buy her forever jewellery.

I'm 22 and for my 18th my Nana got me a necklace from Tiffany with my initials engraved on the back. It's the classic "return to Tiffany" one. I have worn it everyday since. I plan to do the same for my nieces (and a DD if I ever have one!) I think that Tiffany is timeless and so precious. I'm sure your DD will love whatever you choose for her.

curlycat · 02/11/2021 12:07

My DD just had her 21st and her boyfriend bought her the Tiffany heart necklace.
We got her a Gucci watch and she bought herself a Gucci ring.
She also has a nominations bracelet she wears every day.

I think silver Tiffany is dead. It’s over sold, over marketed and over done.

Go have a look on Etsy and you’ll get a lot more interesting pieces at a fraction of the price. You could even go vintage, depending upon your daughters style. You could actually get a gold ring that really would last forever.

Tiffany or gucci/Chanel

They have some great jewellery

Tiffany is lovely for that age. I'll be getting my DD something from there most likely too for her 18th or 21st.

It's certainly not dead or over Confused

It's a classic brand.

My fiancé bought me my first Tiffany silver piece at 21 (30 now!) and it still looks great now when it’s polished up. To me it seems to still be hugely popular with girls now at 18/21 - the Return to Tiffany range is so recognisable.

They’ve actually just, in the last month or so, rereleased the RTT range with tiny diamonds in - if you like that iconic style but want something a bit different.

I don’t think it’s a dead brand either, the quality and service I have always found brilliant. It does seem to be looked down on by MN in general though, not sure why.

LibertyGables · 02/11/2021 17:04

Not to everybody’s taste (not to mine particularly!) but this is what my daughter asked for for her 18th. You can pick the number of “sibyls”, the kind of chain, which words you want… and they are recycled silver, and 20% of the price goes to Women’s Aid, for certain of the pendants. www.dianaporter.co.uk/products/three-silver-sibyl-necklace?_pos=5&_sid=b4eec06cb&_ss=r&variant=30127457534032

HostessTrolley · 02/11/2021 19:59

I’d look at the Elsa Perreti bean or Paloma Picasso olive leaf ranges at Tiffany - we recently got our daughters 21st present from one of these. They’re Tiffany (girls that age do love the branding and the nice packaging..) but more subtle

CiderWithLizzie · 02/11/2021 22:49

My DD is 18 on Thursday snd has requested something from Diana Porter too @LibertyGables! We have bought a bracelet and ring which she will hopefully like (she had a necklace last year).

This is much less than your budget but I bought my daughter this and she loves it

I did actually want to spend more and buy gold but she liked this one!

Geamhradh · 03/11/2021 08:39

My DD turned 18 in October and I want to do the same.
Tiffany is still very much the name most girls that age like I think.

GoingForAWalk · 03/11/2021 17:29

Let's face it opening up a Tiffany gift is always going to be pretty special no matter what anyone else thinks.

DD now 14 gets excited at a Pandora box and the bag it comes in because they look special and pretty. I know 70 year olds that love their Pandora charms and jewellery.

I sent my DM a tree of life pendant from Etsy one birthday and because they forgot to put in the message that was meant to be part of the present she thought it was some random free advertising gift because it just didn't feel special enough. So I'm not buying gifts from them any more, I've learnt my lesson there. Utter disappointment from DM and embarrassing for me.
