Austria for Christmas

We are going to Austria for a week at Christmas. We are staying in a nice hotel half board. I have always wanted to go somewhere that feels Christmassy and have good food served to me. We wont be doing any skiing and was wondering if any of you go just for the atmosphere and food. As my question is in style and beauty, would warm walking boots be sufficient with warm clothing. Do I need to wear snow boots? Any advice welcome on what clothing to pack?

They’re so desperate to save the ski season here, they really don’t want to go into lockdown; there have been news reports about Brits arriving in planeloads for their ski holidays.

They’re relying heavily on testing, with home pcr kits. They’re definitely free for tourists in Vienna, I suppose it might depend where you’re going, but I’d be amazed if they didn’t offer it for winter tourists. I think even if you had to pay, they’re a lot cheaper in the UK.

It’s all such a hassle, isn’t it. I hope it all goes well and you have a lovely time ⛷❄️🏂

ps I think if there’s another lockdown here - we’ve only just come out of one! - it’ll be after Christmas, most likely in early/mid-January

Are the tests free of charge?

In principle, Austria offers a wide test infrastructure with free antigen and PCR tests - also for foreign guests. Nevertheless, it can occasionally happen in regions that only a paid offer is available in the immediate vicinity.

Both free and paid trials are accepted in the Holiday Ninja Pass. There is no entitlement to funding.
