Knee high boots - honest advice please

I have some brown lace up boots similar to these.Had them for years and I adore them. However I keep reading that these are dated now. I am 43 and struggle to know what is stylish or how to put outfits together so would love some advice.
I have previously worn these with skinny jeans or knee length dresses. I’m guessing these would be dated looks? Is there a way of wearing them in a stylish way? Maybe with a midi dress?
I know I can wear whatever I want, but I am trying to look more stylish in general which is why I am asking. I have recently lost a lot of weight so my figure has completely changed and I am looking at overhauling my whole wardrobe.
I’m 5’4, size 12, hourglass with quite long legs and short torso

Perhaps try with midi dresses or culottes.

Culottes looks like puss in boots!

But what do I know💁🏻‍♀️

I still think they look good with skinny jeans & a white shirt

MushMonster · 31/10/2021 23:09

I think knee high boots cannot possibly ever go out of style!
They are the smartest thing ever to me.
I am currently looking for a pair, not sure if black or brown yet.
They will look great with dresses and knee high skirts that the suit in colour.
They will make the outfit when paired with skinny jeans.

womaninatightspot · 31/10/2021 23:11

I like knee high boots but I'm not terribly fashionable.

Anordinarymum · 31/10/2021 23:34

They are ok. I would wear them for walking the dog. Have a look at the latest boots from River Island or New look. They have some fab boots and next week I will be the owner of a pair of them :)

Your age is irrelevant Op I am 66.

jellybe · 31/10/2021 23:39

Love my knee high boots. I feel them can make an outfit. I wear them with midi dresses a lot during autumn winter. And when I find the perfect pair I will wear them with culottes also.

StCharlotte · 31/10/2021 23:39

I have four pairs of knee high boots - one suede pair with lace up backs. I wear them with midi skirts, leggings and tunics, short shift dresses and mini skirts.

They are timeless.

EssexLioness · 01/11/2021 00:41

Thanks everyone - pleased to hear so many say they are timeless! I do like them with midi dresses so will wear them like that, as well as my usual skinny Jean combo too.
Last couple of winters I have practically lived in my boots.

I don’t care whether they’re fashionable or not (and I’m generally quite fashionable). I have to look smartish for work and often wear skirts or dresses, especially in winter. I can’t wear heels due to lower back problems. Flat, knee high smart boots are my absolute go to all winter. Yes, at the moment I’m wearing a lot of midi length but I also still have some knee length dresses and I don’t feel unfashionable wearing them.

EssexLioness · 01/11/2021 10:44

Thanks @BrownTableMat. I don’t wear heels for the same reason.

People have seemed to prefer ankle boots the last few years so knee high boots have been out of fashion. However I have seen a few coming back in the shops lately, so maybe they are coming back in! I have three pairs in the cupboard as they last forever.

EssexLioness · 01/11/2021 10:51

Yes I have seen a few pairs in the shops too so am hoping so. I do have some Chelsea boots too but only wear them with trousers/ jeans. They don’t seem to look right with dresses on me

I think strictly speaking they are not fashionable, and to wear them over skinny jeans is a very dated look now (unfortunately, because I loved that look!). I still own my knee high boots and I now wear them with a silk midi skirt and a cashmere jumper. I think they only work with a midi skirt or dress if you want to be fashionable. (Just my opinion!)

FreshFaceTime · 01/11/2021 10:55

I like them with those shirt dresses. I've been thinking I might need to ditch mine as I've gone off the skinnies/knee boots combo but might hang onto them now for midi dress purposes.

EvelynBeatrice · 01/11/2021 11:19

All the fashion mags etc now have it that ankle boots are out and knee length boots are in again, so, if you’re worried about being on trend, these look spot on.
Makes me laugh as I’ve just got used to wearing ankle boots with dresses etc ..,
Basically I’m of the mind that all boots are great. There’s been a posting on here today about sore feet in high heels. I love it when I can get into my boots. So much comfier than shoes and can make your outfit look smart or edgy very easily. And the trend for beigey/ whiteish/ neutral biker boots extends the boot wearing season in to spring/ summer … it’s all good. Smile

Pheasantlysurprised · 01/11/2021 11:39

why' either or'?
Im fine with both ankle and long boots, but with longer skirts as I don't like jeans.

When the hoards on MN say something is dated I can usually tell that it is actually on the cusp of revival, haha. That said, fuck trends, go for timeless, understated, you cant lose.

nannygoat50 · 02/11/2021 17:24

I love them and you should wear what you like and what you feel comfortable in

Floisme · 02/11/2021 17:30

I don't wear dresses or skirts very often but when I do, it'll be with knee boots this winter. Went back to them a couple of years ago. I don't wear knee boots with jeans though - never been a fan of that look.

Ilikegherkins · 02/11/2021 17:48

Sorry to jump on your thread but I have a couple of pairs of knee high boots with a low heel 4cm ish. Can I get away with these with a midi dress ? Or should they have a heel??

Hellsbells35 · 02/11/2021 18:13

Only midi dresses acceptable, or you will look very dated.

AlphabetAerobics · 02/11/2021 18:17

You’re old enough to know the difference between fashion and style.

Cotswoldmama · 02/11/2021 18:25

Knee high boots are definitely not fashionable at the moment but if you like them don't let that put you off. Chunky Chelsea boots are in. I find the ones that are more like mid calf rather than ankle height go much better with skirts and dresses. And a chunky sole or a chunk heel also are more fashionable than flats.

RubyRedSlippers1 · 02/11/2021 18:28

I don't think they look good over skinny jeans at the moment, but I think they're great with short skirts and dresses.

Asamommy · 02/11/2021 18:43

Honestly I don't think you should worry about what is dated or trendy whatsoever. Just wear how you want to wear! I used to worry about how I look or what people would think about my outfit a lot but I decided to f it all and just wear and buy what I want. Once I do that, I feel really good about myself. Wear ur confidence!!! You'll look beautiful, honestly!
