I’m 42 and as I go grey have been going blonder but not sure if my most recent visit has made me look a bit yellow? What should I ask for to avoid this?

I’d say the top bit looks quite ash coloured, the mid length and ends look quite yellow. I do t know how to counteract this - purple shampoo?

LindaLooky · 31/10/2021 19:55

Looks lovely to me.

Purple shampoo reduces brassiness if you are worried. I like the touch of silver purple shampoo.

Lovewins · 31/10/2021 19:56

@Soontobe60 exactly! I left it for 16 weeks for various reasons (hair breakage, lack of funds, general hair uncertainty) but think now the top is a good colour but bottom sections are yellow. I have blue shampoo and purple conditioner but wondering if an in salon toner could help...

I'm the same as you, getting highlights to help cover the odd grey. I find it looks good for a couple of weeks then goes brassy on the ends so use purple shampoo and conditioner once a week to combat.

Starcaller · 31/10/2021 19:57

I think it looks lovely! But yes, maybe purple shampoo if you feel it's too brassy. Personally though I think your hair is gorgeous!

AnyFucker · 31/10/2021 19:57

It is a bit, yes

BringOnTheOtherWorlders · 31/10/2021 20:00

Add some lowlights, too. I think it's pretty, but if you mix it up a bit - put in more colors - any yellow won't be as noticeable.

BelleOfTheProvince · 31/10/2021 20:00

It looks golden to me. I like it.
If it were me personally I would be weaving some honey blonde highlights to it to add to the Goldilocks vibe and add depth.

Lovewins · 31/10/2021 20:00

@AnyFucker so what should I do/ ask for?!

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 31/10/2021 20:02

You have gorgeous hair. I think some ashy toner is required.

AnyFucker · 31/10/2021 20:05

(Am not a hairdresser). I too am covering grey with blonde. But my hairdresser leaves a lot of the grey in and weaves silver blonde through.

No “warm” tones allowed. Makes it easier on the regrowth too. I also go for a toner and trim every 6 weeks or so. I don’t have hair in great condition like yours though.

Lovewins · 31/10/2021 20:09

Thanks everyone, I’m naturally a bit ginger but now a bit grey so maybe I need to embrace the honey/ yellow. Will look into at home toners. Bit nervous as up until about 6
Months ago had hair that was so thick I didn’t know what to do with it. Think peri menopause and it a dodgy dye job has led to massive hair loss: breakage so a bit nervous...

Ask for the hair colour at the top

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 31/10/2021 20:17

It is quite yellow but looks more 'warm golden' than 'brassy yellow' - I think it looks lovely.

BelleOfTheProvince · 31/10/2021 20:27

I'd definitely be going for golden rather than ashy blonde then, as it will suit your colouring more.
Can you ask for a colour consultation?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/11/2021 06:27

I also think it’s golden, rather than yellow. It’s in great condition as well.,
