Best ladies shoe / boot maker ?

I have a pair of Dune boots which are less than a year old and have turned out to be dreadful quality

I liked the style and I’d like a pair of boots that will last years and can be repaired when needed.

Up to a budget of about £400 what would be the best quality shoe / boot makers for ladies?

I am specifically looking for Brogue ankle boots.

I’ve seen some lovely ones by Churches but they were over £800 so too much

Russell and Bromley do some nice boots but none are the specific Bruges boots I’m looking for

Penelope Chilvers or Chie Mihara

Toast or Brora may some too

LaurieFairyCake · 31/10/2021 19:54

I got my navy brogue Penelope Chilvers boots from EBay - they were new and I only paid £80

Probably bargain of the century Grin as I think they're £280 in real life

Ah brilliant! Will check all these out thanks

Have you looked at Grenson? They had a good sale on not that long ago, so you may find a reduced pair. You can also get them totally resoled at a reduced price as the years pass.

I have two pairs of Grenson and love them, the most comfortable boots I've ever owned.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/10/2021 20:08

Came on to say Penelope Chilvers, so second recommendation above.

Fratelli Rossetti, Chie Mihara. Toast doesn't stock the half sizes unfortunately.

UnusuallyUsual · 31/10/2021 21:24

I feel your pain OP... I also brought expensive boots but was told by the cobbler that they couldn't be reheeled. I was gutted. Anyone remember blakies? Are they still a thing?

I bought these after my Dune brogue boots died. These are my first Solovairs but I’ve heard nothing but good things about them on here.

I'm coveting many of these at the moment:

These look a lovely shape!

Have you worn them much? Comfy?

DH told me to look at Grenson. No sale by the looks of it but found styles I like 👍🏻

Sorry, have just spotted that they've already been recommended!

musicmum75 · 31/10/2021 23:52

Joseph Cheaney. I have several pairs from there (all presents or bought in the sale) and they are fantastic!

KirstenBlest · 01/11/2021 07:39

I have a few pairs of solovairs and they are comfortable. I have the Jade boots from Toast and others.

Grensons are good but I don't have any.

Dune make fashion footwear.

Thetrainisinthestation · 01/11/2021 08:10

Yes the Dunes have been shocking.

I really like the boots in Clarks this year and they are comfortable

Squiz81 · 01/11/2021 09:11

@Thetrainisinthestation yeah the Solovairs are comfy. I had to size one size down - there is a measuring guide on their website and it accurate, my foot measured exactly to the millimetre for the size 5 and they fit fine. They will need breaking in, they rub slightly at my heel. But I have a feeling once that’s done they will be so comfy and last forever

KirstenBlest · 01/11/2021 09:37

I sized down too and they need breaking in but mine were fine after a few wears. Mine didn't rub at the heel, just a little on the toes - my feet are quite wide

Thetrainisinthestation · 01/11/2021 10:43

I do a lot of walking so hopefully would wear them in quickly.
Just definitely need something that can last and cover the miles

The solovairs are like DMs but the quality is much better.
I don't think they'll wear out but they can be resoled.

The grensons are good quality and they also offer resoling
