Suggestions for day out

I’ve lost my way a bit the last couple of years when it comes to style. I’m 46, size 12 with a slightly podgy belly, 5ft 8.

In a couple of weeks I’m going away for the weekend with my SIL who is considered a beauty and 10 years younger than me! We’re going sightseeing in the day and for dinner in the evening. What shall I wear? Give me your autumn, stylish suggestions please! I don’t wear heels, but could wear boots with heels?

(My SIL is lovely by the way, and not judgy at all, this is just about how I feel)

Thanks

Daytime is going to be weather dependent. If dry I'd wear jeans, comfy boots or trainers, nice wool coat/jacket and scarf. If wet, waterproof coat, leggings, waterproof boots.
At night I'd wear a dress as I like to be comfy for sitting eating. Something from COS for example, for the roominess Grin and dressier sturdy boots. All about the comfort

Will you be changing for dinner, or are you wanting one outfit that will take you from sightseeing to dinner? What sort of place are you eating in?

If dry for day, I'd go with either:
jeans, flat boots or leather trainers, jumper, biker or trench
short skirt, flat boots or leather trainers, jumper and coat as above
If wet, I wouldn't wear jeans and would wear a plain black waterproof coat with a short skirt and tights/boots

For evening, dress and boots

I will change for dinner, will probably be somewhere nice. I have a black leather jacket and a really nice grey, long wool coat I bought recently. I’m thinking dress, leather jacket and boots for dinner, and jeans, converse, wool coat and ? top for daytime?
I’ve been looking online for a new necklace to replace my favourite which has tarnished but I think instead I might spray paint it to revive it as I’ve already tried cleaning it.

Have you seen the blog Putting Me Together?

She just has a nice dressy-ish way of styling herself. Not cutting edge trends perhaps but I've found a few tips I have been able to incorporate.

Also it does work in your favour that you are a good height and in good shape. Think about having your hair done before you go, it might put a spring in your step.

Sounds lovely - could you go for a pop of colour with the top under the grey coat? What colours are good with your eyes and complexion?

Kind of like these looks

I have everything except to work out what top to wear with jeans?

I have dark hair and eyes so can carry off most colours. I like neutrals and navy blue. A sheer, flowy blouse maybe?

Great idea to have your hair done before you go.

Also maybe have a make up refresh - get some advice for a new lipstick or tinted moisturiser / foundation at one of the beauty counters so that you look dewy and radiant. I think that forget to update our makeup sometimes and something simple can make all the difference.

Thank you all, I feel a bit more confident now I’ve talked it through.
