Please help me find my 50th Birthday present

50 very soon. DH desparate for ideas so I have a scrabbled to think of something. He is happy with either exact links - or he has shown fabulous taste in the past jewellery wise if I just specify the basics "silver bangle" for example.

So I think I'd like a leather backpack (for commute...cycle a teeny bit of it in the dry weather.. so hence needs to be rucksack/backpack). Needs to be big enough to fit my Contigo coffee cup plus big water bottle and phone/keys/small make up bag. Must have an outside pocket. Ideally black. May consider navy. Price max £250 probably

Or a chunky-ish silver link/t bar like bracelet. Something like this Price is probably this tops.

Am I being a bit dull and safe? I have everything "big birthday" wise I would ever/have ever really lusted after (leather jacket, cocoon chair for the garden, kitchen aid etc etc) so struggling a bit.

Any suggestions very welcome.

Whistles do leather backpacks. I've got the Farrow style and it's good quality.

Chambers and Beau have some lovely ideas for bracelets.. I have the Paperclip bracelet in silver with a couple of charms on .. they have fantastic earrings and necklaces also and you can often mix and match the charms to change them over to other pieces ..

Danielle Draper for silver bracelet ?

I assume you have a good watch ?

Otherwise I would go for something from GeorgJensen

Or a painting/print

I like the idea of the charms - the DC could maybe buy me one or two (wouldn't want any more than that)

Just found this - but maybe a bit big/chunky. But again- I hate too small a bag with a passion. Especially if I am not driving - means I can get "stuff" to work with me even if on my bike.

I like the whistles one. A lot. But wondering if too small for all my clobber...

Will have a look at Danielle Draper and GeorgJensen.

Watch wise, I am afraid I am a runner.....ergo sports watch. I have a rotary (or something) upstairs - but to be honest I tend to stick with the Garmin expects banishment from Style and Beauty

I have the whistles verity backpack, it's quite roomy, fits a slim laptop and charger and water bottle and general crap. But the front pocket flap will not stay down and it's so annoying and ruins the whole bag for me really. At that price I don't think it's acceptable. But I never complained which I should have done!

But back to the subject matter, I don't think those items are too safe for a 50th present at all. Better to get something you'll get a lot of use out of. I'm asking for a bag for my 40th soon.

Georg Jenson do some lovely silver jewellery and more expensive pieces.

jay55 · 28/10/2021 10:08

Coach do decent sized leather backpacks, full price are out of your budget but they often come up on brand alley or in their sale.
If you look on their site at seasonal offers and mens bags they have a good few on sale now (not all particularly stylish Grin).

I like the ones with a big compartment that you can lie flat and zip open like a suitcase. You can find everything easily.

I was disappointed with Georg Jensen - I had my eye on the mobius ring but when I tried it on the design meant it didn't sit right. The mobius bangle looks lovely but not worth £625.

beggingforsleep, maybe you could take the bag to a cobbler and get a popper put on the front flap of your bag. Would save you being driven nuts by it now it's too late to take it back.

Posh Totty in based in Brighton do some lovely jewellery, have a look at their website. Congrats on your milestone birthday 🥳 I can’t help with the bag though, I go for lightweight Kipling bags these days.
