December wedding. Help.

I'm losing the will to live. Going to wedding of an old friend in early December, reception at a city centre gallery space (UK). Brides family is very well to do, groom's side more laid back (ageing hipsters, lots of teachers and creative industries).

I have no idea what to wear. I'm 43, 5ft 8, size (generous) 14 -16, big boobs. I'm going on my own and there will be people there I've not seen in 10 years. Feel really self-conscious as I've gone up 2 dress sizes in that time.

Normally I dress very casually - was always a bit 'alternative' in my youth. Have been trawling online for weeks and found nothing. Styles either seem to look to young, or something my mum would wear. I don't mind spending up to £200 for an outfit if it's something I'll wear again.

Was thinking some sort of wrap/midi dress and boots? Don't want sleeveless or high neck. Or wide leg trousers and a nice top? But then what shoes?

Clueless. Feel like I've totally lost my way since having DD (she's 5!!) I don't even know what I like any more.

The Nancy Mac dresses and jumpsuits always look gorgeous to me, in jewel colours perfect for a December wedding

Atla · 26/10/2021 16:23

Just had a quick look - they do have some nice styles, bit expensive, although I could stretch for something really special.

Think I might look like tinkywinky in a jumpsuit though.

I like the colour of that one @DGFB but I don't think the neckline would suit me. Thanks for looking though.

I’m going to a very, very similar wedding (not December though!) and I’ve gone for the attached.

I’m 5ft 9, also a 14-16 and have put on weight since my friends last saw me (baby weight) and it’s really flattering. I bought both sizes and the 14 fits really nicely. I have big boobs, a mum tum but good legs and this looks really good I .

I’m planning on wearing it with heeled ankle boots and probably a camel coat or leather jacket, haven’t quite decided!

@MaverickDanger that's nice, I like the twist at the front. How short is it on you? I could wear with tights and boots I guess...

@Thecurtainsofdestiny not keen on either of those coast ones I'm afraid - just not very me. Thanks for looking.

@MsSquiz I like the silkfred one but I think it might be a bit too casual for this wedding. I don't mind the Wallis one either, but not sure about the length.

God, I'm a nightmare - so hard to please!!

I do like some of the Nancy Mac dresses and the navy velvet jumpsuit, but I'm wavering because of the price - I have to factor in shoes and some sort of spanx type underwear as well!

Coast quality is awful now they are owned by ASOS.
This is a lovely dress but they only have green in your size. Could look great with gold or silver www.tedbaker.com/uk/Womens/Clothing/Dresses/HARIIET-Raglan-sleeve-tea-midi-dress-Khaki/p/243831-KHAKI

Atla · 26/10/2021 18:14

Thanks @CoffeeBeansGalore I'll have a look. I find looking online so hard - really prefer to try things on.

@Atla you could dress it up with heels and jewellery?

I reckon im the same size as you, but a lot shorter at 5'1" so I wasn't sure with the length of the Wallis one either

This one looks a bit dressier than the first silk Fred one?

Also, not sure your thoughts on leopard print, but I wore this dress (different colour and pattern) for my daughter's christening and got loads of compliments. It was so flattering

I wouldn't go for the ghost dress - not keen on the colour and I think linen would get too creased. I quite like the ted baker dress, but that type of high neckline just wouldn't suit me. I think I want darker, jewel type colour too.

@MsSquiz I really like the leopard print dresses! Is leopard print ok for a wedding? Think I prefer the second one...

MsSquiz · 26/10/2021 18:35

@Atla I really like the leopard print, and it would go with nude or black shoes.
They have other prints in the same dress too.

The dress itself I found so comfortable and flattering.
I'm only 5'1" and had the start of a baby bump, but this was the version I wore

That green leopard print dress is fabulous- I've just ordered it for myself 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Atla · 26/10/2021 18:44

That looks lovely on you Smile I'm going to have a proper look later on and check out all the prints ( we do look a similar size!)

It’s about two inches above my knee. I think it could work well with tights, I’m taking some with me in case it’s really cold.

mnahmnah · 26/10/2021 18:51

I’m the same age, height and a 12/14 - I would wear a number of the dresses in silkFred, there’s a wedding guest section:

I like these from silk Fred!
