Greasy hair and dandruff - any tips?

I have very long/thick hair and up until a couple of years ago I use to have my hair coloured by a professional. I've had a few different colours including blonde and red. I can't afford it anymore so I now use a box dye every few months instead. I have used a few different shades, all browns but I have now been using the same shade for at least a year. Every time I colour my hair it comes out with shades of ginger and is also very greasy with flakes of dandruff that get stuck in my hair. Not a lot, but still enough that I can see it when I have my hair tied back. I normally wash my hair every day, but I just can't remember ever having this issue until I started using box dyes. I use to be able to go at least a couple of days, if not more, before having to wash my hair and it still looked fresh and silky.

I was thinking of having my hair stripped and just embracing my natural colour, as this colour isn't working particularly well any way and is just turning me more and more ginger. Would that help?

Any tips are welcome. I'm a bit useless with this sort of stuff. Thanks Smile

The inky list are doing hair care based on skincare ideas and I highly rate the salycylic acid for a greasy flakey scalp. As for the colour I’m sorry I know you said it’s unaffordable but I would honestly try to find the money for a hairdresser if possible, explain how often you can realistically afford to get your hair done and see if they can come up with a low maintenance solution.
