What coat with long dresses

I need help working out what kind of coat to wear with long dresses.
I tend to wear long dresses or skirts, with lace up boots quite a lot in the autumn and into the winter, but I’ve no idea what jacket to wear with them.
I’ve just ordered a black biker jacket, but I’m not sure if it feels quite me. It’s to spendy to just keep a while and see if it grows on me.
So any suggestions, I’m a size 16 pear if that matters.

I like
Short boxy woollen jacket
Denim Borg jacket
Full length trench or woollen coat

Short and boxy would probably be a better style for for me…
That Hobbs coat is beautiful, but far too formal for me.
Any suggestions for short wool coats?

Budget? Colour?

I wear either a biker-style jacket, or a short/boxy wool jacket (as previously mentioned). Sorry, can't link, as mine was Escada from the charity shop.
I personally can't get over the difference in hemlines when wearing a long coat over a midi skirt, although many people carry the look off successfully.

What about a fur lined denim jacket?

NameChangeinHaste · 25/10/2021 13:45

Budget up to £150.
Colour - black, navy, charcoal, maybe a khaki. Something that feels autumny

Per pp I generally wear a short jacket with a long dress/skirt (leather biker with a big scarf, short faux fur) but I do have a mid-calf brown teddy faux fur from Zara that seems to work even with the dress poking out underneath for some reason. I also have a long duvet/puffer coat which comes down to my ankles.

Before you invest in a coat, bear in mind that if you live anywhere rainy and have to walk, this sort of outfit can be difficult. There is NOTHING worse than having wet skirts flapping about your legs, especially if you arrive at work like that!

@Judystilldreamsofhorses - I love your user name!
I do drive to and from work - different town, not laziness!
Though definitely wouldn’t work on days I need to be outside!
DM has the perfect coat that I picked out years ago for her from Monsoon, despite some heavy hinting she’s not yet passed it on!

@NameChangeinHaste would you do a puffer style? I saw a Didriksons one yesterday, think it was called Stella. I have a Didriksons coat and it’s so lovely and warm

A slightly longer belted jacket might work too.
