Where to buy clothes - 4ft 11

Hello. My DD is 4ft 11 and a size 4/6. She's 14 and has her own sense of style but we struggle to find clothes that fit her well. She wears mostly jeans but would like to wear more tights and skirts. She has a birthmark on her leg she's conscious of, so won't have bare legs.

Could anyone suggest places we could find stuff for her. Thank you.

Hi OP,

I just want to say that I am 5ft and I find it really hard to find clothes that fit. I have to get so many things altered. Tops get shortened, shoulders and underarms need fabric taken out of them. Trousers always get shorted. Skirts get taken up.

The few things I don't need to get altered usually come from the petite section of Next/ M&S.

I wear a lot of skater dresses with tights. Skater dresses suit most petites.

I'm probably not the best person to comment on age appropriate clothes as I'm in my late 30s now, but just wanted to say that if she remains petite, she will probably need to get most things altered in future. She will save a heap of money if she learns how to sew!

ASOS has a biggish petite range

Uniqlo XS might work (some styles come up bigger, more of an 8 than a 6), and they also have XXS online. They do (pre pandemic, anyway) free alterations to take up trousers, too. They’re designed for a more petite frame, so might suit her, and it would at least give her options for plain basics.

H&M or Primark in the absence of Top Shop on the high street (but available via ASOS)

My mum is 4'10 (at a push, thunk she has shrunk a bit Grin).
She has struggled with this her whole life. It isn't about getting small sizes, she is a 10.
The arms are too long, the tops are too long, the gusset of the trousers is too long, dresses don't sit at your waist...
I have no answer as we have never found anywhere that does decent, proper petite clothing. That is clothing that is made petite, not just a smaller size with a slightly shorter hem.
She has had many items made for her, and tailored after buying.

The changing rooms in Ralph Lauren Kids Outlets seem to be full of short slim women so I think that’s definitely a brand to consider.

I am 5'1 and size 8 and can fit into age 14/15 clothes from most major retailers. I would start there or look at petite ranges in next, ASOS, M&S. I don't know your budget but Boden are very good quality

Thank you. I've not tried ASOS before so will have a look.
