At 46? And I work in a library. I like the idea of smart trousers, a shirt and a knitted vest 😢

Good Lord, I wore them at school in the 70s

I bought one recently from Primark without trying it on. I wish I had as it's HUGE (despite being XS) and a square, boxy shape. I think fitted ones look lovely. This just adds width.

I love a tank top - and am currently knitting myself one as some of the prices for the ones I liked were a bit extreme.

It is. My father, born in the 1920s, wore them and called them sleeveless pullovers. He moaned when called them tank tops.

Yes, the men wear them a lot in All Creatures Great and Small.

Sweater vests are associated with 70yo men so I doubt you’re too old to wear one

Definitely no age limit on those - they’re definitely trendy at the moment - but on trend for all ages (i.e. not just something you only see on teenagers).
I see quite a few people round here wearing them as they add a bit of extra warmth in autumn and have just bought one to get a bit of extra wear out of my dresses as we go into winter (I’m mid 40s)

My DD (age 14) loves these, she calls them sweater vests. Looks good as part of the dark academia aesthetic.
I want one now.

Hands up to owning a couple of waistcoats as well......worn with a crisp white shirts with double cuffs and my DH cufflinks, love them

You are not too old! I think any age could work a sweater vest. I’ve got a plain caramel coloured one from H&M and have had several compliments. I really like the highly patterned Brora ones too. I’m 42.

I call them sleeveless jumpers. I was around in the late 70s and can’t bring myself to say tank top (where does the tank bit come from 🤔).

I wear them (I have several). I’m 62 and love fashion. So no, you are definitely not too old. Age isn’t and issue for style/fashion.

I became obsessed with the American college lecturer look after watching The Chair with Sandra Oh back in the summer.
I LOVE the look of wide legged trousers with a shirt and knitted tank top. And chunky brogues.
I'm tall, with small chest and I think it suits my shape.
Am mid-40s, I used to wear waistcoats back in the day. Think it may be time for a revival...

I don’t understand why you would even ask? They look good at any age. Even my smart Aunt of 93 would look great in one. Don’t let age define what you want to wear. Especially given you’re only 45!
