Which skincare range?

I used Clarins until about seven or eight years ago when I went to buy both a day and a night cream and the cost was about £160 and I decided that was just too much money.

Since then I have been using Liz Earle. Initially I liked the simplicity of the range but over the last couple of years there have been more and more 'must use' products added and others reformulated.

I have no particular skin problems just normal skin for someone of 56. It could be a bit firmer round the jowls area and I have normal fine lines on forehead and eyes.

Any suggestions preferably at a similar price point to Liz Earle.

At a much much lower price point than Liz Earle is The Ordinary and The Inkey List. Just as, most likely more, effective!

I'm a big fan of Jordan Samuel Skin. Sold on Cult Beauty. Cleanser, eye gel, oil, serum. The only thing I'm less keen on is the moisturiser as I find it a little greasy.

TheCategoryIs · 24/10/2021 11:15

I’d look at Cerave.

I spend all my money on a Dermatica subscription and then use v cheap simple stuff, currently my night cream is an own brand Superdrug dry skin cream that cost under £2.

Thank you for these suggestions. Ridiculous I know, but I'm always reluctant to try something that is a much lower price point.

I have tried Cerave but found the moisturiser a bit like Sudacrem.

I will take a look at Cult Beauty.

I use no 7 protect range its in blue packaging the moisturiser is lovely I sometimes use Dds cerave face wash if I get breakout.

Kjr33 · 24/10/2021 12:09

I can’t see myself ever sticking to one brand so religiously but if I had to maybe it would be la roche posay?

Mrsjayy · 24/10/2021 12:10

I don't like cerave cream either its far too thick for me, the dd has a full range of their creams she seems to like them, the face wash does the job though.

I swapped from Clarins to Medik8 2 years ago and my skin has looks a bit fresher. Ive built up the Retinol strength and rate the Vitamin C serum.
If you do decide to try it's worth shopping about, there are always discount codes around.

I love La Roche Poussay, I can buy in Boots, it's lovely and gentle on my skin, lasts ages.

I still buy Neals Yard facial oil and avocado night cream for bed though

Perching · 24/10/2021 12:30

Dermalogica Age Smart
The salon size is really good value

GoodnightGrandma · 24/10/2021 12:40

I’ve used LE for over 20 years, but it’s not ac7owned by her now, I believe Avon bought it then sold it to Boots.
I agree that there’s too much choice, so I just stick to the basics I like to use.
I’m just about to buy the Superskin moisturiser with Neroli for the winter.
I also like the Superskin face oil to use at night.

isthismylifenow · 24/10/2021 12:42

I'm also an ex Clarins user. My skin is so fussy and I probably spent more trying to find a replacement. I use body shop oils of life now which is lovely. And I have some Avene products that I use as well, esp the eye cream.

But. I found a little bag that I didn't realise I had packed at the back of my drawer, which had the larger sample sizes of Clarins day and night cream. It felt like Christmas came early! I've been using those this past week, and my skin is looking so radiant. Even my dd commented. Sigh. So now I'm tempted again. But the price of Clarins now is just out of my price range. I can get 4 body shop products for the price of one Clarins cream.

NurseButtercup · 24/10/2021 15:05

Boots have just introduced a line to directly compete with The Ordinary and The Inkey list, so that's worth a look.

I'm leaning into the Korean & Japanese skincare, mainly because they are less harsh on my skin. The brands I've tried so far are: cosrx and purito. I buy everything via yesstyle.com.

NurseButtercup · 24/10/2021 15:08

Oh and I forgot to mention the Aldi range of face creams, "lacura" are supposed to be dupes for other brands, eg lacura moisture boost is a dupe for Clinique moisture surge. Look up skinfool on Instagram they've got a looong list of dupes.

purplesequins · 24/10/2021 15:13

good old nivea q10 spf 30
weleda skin food for nights after chemical peel.

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2021 15:22

I don’t think you can beat Aldi Lacura moisturisers. They’re the equal of anything by Elemis, Clarins or Clinique that I’ve used. The Caviar night cream is excellent.

If you have a look at the ethos behind The Ordinary, you might get updated on this issue of ‘it’s expensive, so it must be better” . Lots of very spendy products are packed beautifully and full of fragrance and texture enhancers, and really very low percentages of actives.
ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 24/10/2021 15:33

@TomAllenWife hi, can you be more specific about which La Roche Posay products you use please? I want to be more organised in my skincare/makeup regime and I really like La Roche Posay. Thanks

TomAllenWife · 24/10/2021 15:50

@ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul

I like the toleraine fluid and the toleraine eye cream is divine, it's the only eye cream that doesn't irritate my eyes leaving them dry & red

The hydra phase light or riche are lovely gentle moisturisers too

I also use their micellar water

Would you mind screenshotting Skinfool page as I can't seem to find it Blush
isthismylifenow · 24/10/2021 17:07

Ooh I found it. Smile

Skinskool.

Such a pity as most of the dupe products aren't available in my country.

redferrari · 24/10/2021 17:11

+1 for medik 8 serums pp mentioned. I am still hunting for a good moisturiser though and keep changing or go back to cetaphil lotions.

Torres10 · 24/10/2021 20:48

Given that face moisturisers do very little than plump your skin, I only now go for a good quality one & not a super expensive one. Your ££ are better spent on a retinol at night and a vit c in the day alongside a good spf.
Re moisturisers, PP have covered most of the ok ones, and the cheaper ones can be excellent. The ordinary, inkey and cerave are all good options..cerave do a lighter fluid option as well as cream which is worth a look.

NadiaVulvokov · 24/10/2021 21:58

Esse is pretty good. Lovelula stock it.

RiverSkater · 24/10/2021 22:24

People on here rave about Aldi so once you've accepted you are paying for brand marketing promotions and packaging with your higher end creams you could try them?
