M&S Jeans again - whats the difference between boyfriend and mom?

So my saga goes on. I really like the look of a slightly looser fit jean but am confused about terminology. Is Mom and boyfriend the same? Ideally I'm looking for something looser on leg but not too loose on the waist and not too short. I was happiest in my Topshop maternity!

I think both styles are loose but mom jeans tend to be high waisted and slightly tapered at the ankle and not all that flattering imho. I have some boyfriend jeans from M&S and they are pretty good and comfortable. M&S have a good range of styles so maybe worth trying a few different pairs. I bought some of their slim flares (bootcut in other words) and they are really nice.

I’ve got the M&S boyfriend jeans. They are a lovely fit and so comfortable

Mom jeans are high-waited and make even the flattest stomach look 5 months pregnant.

And yes, they’re tapered at the ankle.

Boyfriend jeans are lower slung. They feel a bit less ‘structured’ that mom jeans.

I think Mom are tapered, boyfriend straight

FWIW I’ve got 2 pairs of the M&S Mom jeans (in my attempt to move on from skinny) and I love them dearly. As you describe they are neat at the (high) waist, looser in the keg but then tapered so they are not at all flappy at the ankle

Mom jeans are high waist yes and could be more ‘80’s’ in shape; boyfriend could be high/kid/low waist but always a loose/wide straight leg. Like jeans you’ve borrowed off your Boyf! Xo

Thanks all, I plan on wearing with converse or superga plus I'm a size 14/16. M&S annoys me in that the stores are a mess so having to do this online and buy a gazillion pairs to try on!
