Mid calf boots - thoughts?

Nearlyadoctor · 22/10/2021 19:06

I really like these mid calf boots but DH says boots should be either short or long. I have loads of long boots already, but am worried that at 5’4 maybe mid calf will make me look like I’ve got short legs.
Also thoughts on the style , probably wear nearly exclusively with jeans.

I don't think it's a very flattering length to be honest, would you be wearing with jeans or skirts or are you looking for something that looks good with both?
I think they could look great with jeans.

soberisthenewpissed · 22/10/2021 19:11

Sorry, I should have read the full post - yes with jeans I think they'd look great.

HippeePrincess · 22/10/2021 19:11

I like a mid calf, though I have really long legs. These don't look right as mid calf length though and I would prefer these longer or shorter so I can see where your DH is coming from.

Weatherwax13 · 22/10/2021 19:16

I tend to think mid calves make your legs look shorter. I'm 5'7 and still have fairly slim legs and I just don't like the point that they cut off. Kind of feel like they need pulling up. Gave mine to a DD and tbh I don't think much of them on her either. Mind you I'm also struggling with the concept of midaxi dresses so it could be my advanced age Grin

Moonshine5 · 22/10/2021 19:16

I think they need to longer to be classified "mid calf" i.e. the height of cowboy boots approx

Moonshine5 · 22/10/2021 19:17

I'm obsessed with mid calf boots. A bit of an afficienado

neveradullmoment99 · 22/10/2021 19:24

I love mid calf boots. They are perfect for jeans and I like them with a skirt. They are less 'heavy' looking. I am not fussed on the two boots linked.

Impossiblecauses · 22/10/2021 20:02

On the length of leg situation- if you choose boots of a tone similar to your outfit (black with black for example) then there will be less of a distinct cut-off line between calf and boot?

I like a midcalf personally- but I am an ageing millennial so Kate Moss circa 2010s is my era. (Feel free to throw me out of the s&b board now Smile )

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/10/2021 20:29

I like mid calf boots but I'm 5'9. Even with long legs, I'm careful what I wear them with. I wouldn't advise them for shorter legs unless the top of them was covered by a dress etc. They can be very unflattering if they end at the widest part of your calf.

nordica · 22/10/2021 20:33

I like those! I'm 5ft3 and I don't really worry about how my legs too, it's obvious I'm short anyway.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2021 20:55

I like those op, ans I really like mid calf, but I’m five eight with long legs/short torso. So they work on me

To be honest at 5ft4 you likely do have short legs, you know because your 5ft 4 , so they may emphasis that. Sorry, I mean that politely.

Nearlyadoctor · 23/10/2021 07:41

Thank you everyone for your opinion’s I’ll procrastinate a bit longer Smile

I'm the same height and I think they look more in proportion with my legs and they fit better. Long boots often come up too far on my legs so that the widest part of the boot is too high and therefore too loose and baggy. They're definitely worth at least trying on. They won't cut your leg in the same place as they would in someone who is 5 inches taller and they might actually work better.

Greyhare · 23/10/2021 13:40

I'm 5ft 2 and like a mid calf boot but I think mid calf boots work better if a little looser and more biker styled, I think the ones you posted look wrong because they are too fitted and work better as either an ankle or full length boot.

Moonshine5 · 23/10/2021 14:11

Mode in Pelle used to have a good biker boot choice

SirChenjins · 23/10/2021 14:17

I’m five foot one and often wear them - knee length boots are often too long and finish on my knee joint which looks ridiculous rather than a couple of inches under, but I find calf length is more knee length looking - if that makes sense. Probably different if you’re taller.

helibirdcomp · 30/10/2021 19:54

Sorry - just not a good look - goes with a baggy tweed skirt and a plaid shopping trolley

Alwayscheerful · 31/10/2021 08:53

I have the same PC boots in a different colour, they are not true mid calf, cowboy boots are true mid calf. I would say they are more flattering than the shorter version.
I would liken Them to a biker boot, they are fitted, extremely comfortable and look great with jeans.

Have you looked at duo boots? If your paying that much money they size your calf

Penelope Chilvers are much nicer boots.
OhMyCrump · 16/11/2021 20:38

What kind of jeans would you wear them with? I like them but can't visualise.

Nearlyadoctor · 16/11/2021 20:40

Bought 2 pairs in the end - neither as linked above Grin

So that’s my boot budget for the next 10 years spent!! They are both amazingly comfortable

Very late Middleton / Sloane ranger for me and I wouldn’t wear them unless I had her legs
