Something elegant / Scotland

Hi, I am going to Scotland for work in the COP 26. I need to be smartly dressed, office style the whole day. I worry about rain and cold. What could I use over the office clothes (like blazers and such). I have a Barbour coat but I think is too sporty? Thank you for any advice!

I’m in Scotland and have loads of different coats - on a cold and wet day I would wear a parka with a hood, or a long duvet/puffer coat. On cold dry days I like a faux fur coat, or a leather jacket with a big scarf.

I hate umbrellas and find them a nuisance but if you want to look elegant that might be a better option with a long wool coat? A Barbour will be fine though.

Thank you @Judystilldreamsofhorses the think is that I am going only three days, so I can't bring many coats. Maybe the Barbour and a long black coat 🧐 (also hate umbrellas)

Oh gosh, I wasn’t suggesting you lug multiple coats! More that anything goes. The Barbour will be fine, honestly.

I wear the same regardless of London/Edinburgh/Inverness. It’s not really that different in autumn.

@iwishiwasafish OP is going to Glasgow though where it will undoubtedly piss rain the entire time 🤣

I'm having the same dilemma. 3 days for a business meeting, but in San Francisco in November where it could be cold or mildish...

It's casual enough for a parka, but still want to feel smart..... Absolutely no idea what to wear.... also don't have a nice parka not too wintery but also don't want to buy one that I don't have much use for...

Any ideas welcome 🙂

Haudyourwheesht · 22/10/2021 21:47

The forecast in Glasgow is for a million twelve days of rain so I'd definitely go for something waterproof / with a hood. It's been weirdly mild though, so maybe not too warm. My Barbour is not out yet as I feel it'd be too warm.

iwishiwasafish · 22/10/2021 21:53

I’d normally go for this kind of thing.. Plain but stylish waterproof where you can then add a layer underneath if it’s cold.

@Haudyourwheesht I'll take the Barbour, I believe. @iwishiwasafish thank you! Is very nice!

I live in Glasgow and when I visit London it always feels much warmer to me, even in winter. Edinburgh is bloody freezing any time of year. 🤣

The weather has really turned this week in Glasgow, it’s cold, very, very windy and there is heavy rain on the way. Wear something that will keep you warm and dry and cover your hair.
