Please help me find a dress!

I've been invited to a red carpet event with a 'lounge suit' dress code. Apart from knowing that I need a maxi length dress, I don't have a clue what to wear, what shoes are acceptable, bags etc!

I'm 5'4" and size 18/20. I'm generally a casual dress or jeans person so don't have clue where to start with this. Any help would be appreciated.

It doesn't have to be a maxi dress, and it's less formal/glam than black tie but still smart/dressy.

A nice cocktail dress or the kind of thing you night wear to a wedding would be suitable. What sort of colours do you usually go for?

How old are you? No idea whether these would suit you or be your thing but they are the type of thing I would consider suitable to accompany men in a lounge suit.

'Lounge suit' for ladies generally means NOT floor length. Cocktail frock length, but with sleeves or a cover up - no strapless/strappy/sleeveless dresses.

Something like these: fancier than you'd wear to an office, but at the plainer, less dressy end of a cocktail frock, knee length or midi:

No not maxi/floor length, that's white tie. And not cocktail dresses or sequins or see through bits.

rbe78 has it pitched correctly, it's a day dress you are looking for.

Thank you all! 😊 There are some lovely dresses here and I hadn't even thought of looking in TK Maxx and House of Fraser.

I'm completely rubbish at anything dressy!
