Classic clothes items

I'm trying to get basics of classic pieces in my wardrobe - tops, trousers and skirts for work, jumpers, shirts, blouses, shoes.

Not completely boring but clean looking, wash well, well cut.

Can anyone suggest shops or current items?

So far I like some Hobbs tops, Uniqlo extra fine merino (gosh they come up small- need to try L or XL) but colours are limited. On the lookout for loafers. Zara has some simple jumpers with buttons at the wrist. Possibly some trousers in Massimo Dutti but I couldn't understand the sizing and they all looked huge so I left. A lot (nearly all!) blazers have pointy upturned collars which I hate on me, they make me think of the Joker for some reason.

Suggestions welcome.

Cos - brilliant for basics and then you can add more colour and interest with accessories/fripperies from elsewhere.

Thanks I had a browse but it all looked a little large and not really fitted tops but I will try again.

Don't have links for specifics but these are basic items for autumn winter that I like, these sort of thing you can pick-up in most stores from Primark to Zara to Reiss depending on your budget, I find that if I am looking for a very specific item searching online is less overwhelming as you can quickly cut the options down with filters.

  • cigarette pants or leather look leggings
  • blue jeans in your preferred cut
  • flat boots
  • heeled boots (I favour ankle boots personally)
  • loafer
  • leather mini skirt
  • satin midi skirt
  • cashmere/wool jumper(s)
  • fitted roll necks
  • cropped cardigan
  • oversized white shirt
  • blazer
  • trench coat
  • wool winter coat

For brands I like Zara, &Other Stories, and Sezane. H&M also has some gems though.

seriously, who wears tench coats outside of a mild non-rainy summer in a metropolis?

I live in a UK city and walk everywhere, because I walk quite fast I do get warm, so I find that a decent quality jumper and trench is perfect for most autumn and spring days.
